(Anonymous) 2015-08-22 01:03 am (UTC)(link)Huh. I was thinking that if Jon Stewart did a tribute album to The Monkees, I'd be tempted to buy it. Mostly because he's so endearingly off-key when he sings.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-21 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)Does that make any sense?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-22 04:04 am (UTC)(link)I felt the Monkees' instrumentation and lyrics are cheery to an extent, but still ambiguous. Davy's vocals on the studio version really help (the live versions I've looked up sound happier). John Stewart's is more straightforwardly sad and wistful, so there's one less layer of feeling.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-22 04:10 am (UTC)(link)I didn't expect to see so many covers of that song by Japanese artists on YouTube. Some used Japanese lyrics, I wonder if they were direct translations? Also, something about the melody or the tempo or the piano parts makes me want to see it used in an anime opening.
