How so?

I mean, sometimes people do them in ways that are homophobic/transphobic/sexist...but you could just as easily write a transphobic werewolf AU, or sexist kidfic. Doesn't mean there's "something wrong with werewolf AUs" or "something wrong with kidfic", it means there's something wrong with transphobia, homophobia, and sexism.

Same. I'm interested if it explores how the story or the relationships between the characters would change if one or more characters were the opposite sex.

But if it's just genderswapping for the sake of genderswapping or because the author wants more female/male characters in the canon, I have zero interest.
