The US should have far more holidays than it does, and more holidays which give people days off.

But also, we should probably rededicate Labor Day to commemorate something else and just celebrate Labor Day on May 1st like the rest of the world.

Finally, Thanksgiving is the objective best holiday.

Labor Day should actually be fucking Labor Day instead of "all of the workers who could actually use the day off don't get it off because it's when we have all the sales and shit."

Costco is wayyyyyyyyy above average in terms of decency to its workers. It is in no way the norm.

This is also a reason Costco rules and everyone should go there.

Most of them don't. Instead, they hold big sales for all the white collar workers who DO get the day off.

It's awful. It's basically a celebration of class stratification at this point.

Ahahahahhahaha. Today i worked a ten and a half hour shift, and tomorrow I get to work another ten hours, while the store fills with bitchy customers who get the day off. I want to set everything on fire.

Disagree about Thanksgiving. I like it, but I'd say either Halloween or Christmas are the best holidays for me. Although, at Christmas we always did the same Thanskgiving food, so it was like Thanksgiving with added presents and music and pretty decorations.

Thanksgiving is usually when the radio stations start airing their Christmas music, so that's when I start listening to it. I usually put it on when I'm prepping the turkey. Thanksgiving is also when I put up my Christmas tree.

Thanksgiving is like Christmas without the pressure, without the expectations, without most of the cultural and commercial bullshit that is attendant on Christmas. We assign an enormous cultural weight to Christmas but much less to Thanksgiving - that means that Thanksgiving at least has the potential to just be Thanksgiving. For those reasons, I like it much more.
