...omg OP, what? That's my birthday too and I'm turning 33. What. Can we go on an adventure together?

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-09-19 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy birthday to you too! I'd love to go on an adventure. Is there anywhere in particular you'd like to go?

OP, this secret made me so happy. I hope you have an awesome adventure that doesn't revolve around cursed jewelry! ;)

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-09-19 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm pretty sure most of my jewelry is non-cursed.

Good luck, OP. FWIW, I think it's hard to end up having a completely boring life with this sort of mindset.

This is such a sweet secret, OP. Word of advice, though? Don't wait too long. You can have adventures at any age, but some things are easier to do when you're young. They don't have to be backpack around the world adventures, either! Visiting a new park or exploring a nearby town you've never visited is also an adventure.

Your return home will be all the sweeter for stepping outside your door once in a while.

Yes, this is a very good comment.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-19 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You can walk to the park in your 30's, it's not an age where this is too hard to do jfc

Adventure can happen at any age - don't wait for it, though. If that's what you want, be proactive about it.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-19 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto this. In real life, adventures rarely just happen to a person out of the blue without any effort on their part. But that's okay, because making your own adventure is fun!

(Anonymous) 2015-09-19 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're wealthy, this is a good advice

but for not privileged people who still will need to save up after more years of work in order to be able to go to an adventure, well we'll unfortunately HAVE to wait.

I hate to be "that guy", but...

(Anonymous) 2015-09-19 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Hobbit years =/= human years. Frodo was 33 at the party when Bilbo vanished, and 33 was considered his "coming of age", i.e. the transition from childhood to adulthood. That would be more like one's late teens to mid twenties by human reckoning. Even then, you can argue that his adventure hadn't really started yet. He inherited the Ring and Bag End, yeah, but seventeen more years passed before he sets off with Merry and Pippin.

But you just can't resist being a know-it-all jerk?

Yeah, I'm sure you really hate being "that guy." You, sir, are a party-pooper.

I really LOVE this secret. My life hasn't gone in the way I've planned, and it's exciting to think that there's so much I can still do even though I'm approaching the 30 year mark. Rock on, OP!

Another great quote from The Hobbit.

Bilbo: “Go back?” he thought. “No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!”

(Anonymous) 2015-09-19 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Very people look back on their lives and think, "I sure am glad I put off having fun adventures until I was 35, whew, dodged a bullet there..."

Find your adventure and carpe diem, OP!

(Anonymous) 2015-09-19 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
You have reminded me that I turn 33 in one week and five days and aside from holding a steady job on the lowest of low management rungs and acquiring a chronic illness, I've done nothing with my life.

And except for when I put it like that, I'm okay with that. I just want to watch my movies and my TV and play my games, except for those moments when I fear I'm missing out on life and companionship.

Adventure can start at any time so once you see that opportunity, take it!

My favorite adventure was a road trip on the scenic route of the United States. Saw Niagra Falls, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, and a bunch of other things. Visited the local stores along the way and stayed at a different hotel every night. It was an amazing experience.
