Some of the comments are disgusting.

Don't talk to me about "personal responsibility" when we're talking about a person who repeatedly told a suicidal person to KEEP DOING IT.

Why is a person who is out of their mind psychologically supposed to have full responsibility while a person of sound mind who is encouraging them to kill themselves is protected by "free speech"? How does that make sense?

She was 17 when it happened. But I still think she should be tried as an adult. She was damn near 18, and she seems clearly unrepentant.

Because the crime occurred when she was a juvenile. No-one stays a juvenile, but the criminal was a juvenile at the time of the crime. You can't hold a persons past actions based on who they are in the present. It's like that whole "If I'd known then what I know now" thing. You can't change who you were in your youth by who you become, you can only answer for what you do in your youth in the context of who you were in your youth.

Is 17 considered a juvenile? Is this a state by state thing? I don't know the law but the teachers at my school always threatened the problem kids at my school with being tried in adult court about various things, but they could have been full of shit...

I'm pretty sure under 18 is always considered a juvenile by default. However, there are ways to get a juvenile moved to adult court. Some states don't have a minimum age for that. In other states it varies. here is an article on it from PBS. Wikipedia has more, but it is Wikipedia, so...

I feel horrible for this girl.

she lost her boyfriend, and people keep telling her it's her fault for not being supportive enough because ofcourse it's a womans responsibility to be an endless source of compassion and support for a man! How dare she not be supportive enough with a boyfriend who was in every real way an emotional leech! Personally I wouldn't have talked him through his shit the way she did. I'd have left his emotionally abusive ass, but she's a teenager, so she chose to stay and help him through his choice - HIS FUCKING CHOICE - and for that she is being labeled a monster. And now she's at a very real risk of her life being ruined by his selfish fucking decision.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I meant emotionally abusive, which is what I would call it putting the responsibility for you not killing yourself on your girlfriend.

When you send your girlfriend a text saying "I'm killing myself and it's your responsibility to talk me out of it" that is emotional abuse.

You'll need to show some proof that he sent a text message like that if you're going to insinuate he was abusive. As it is, you're just making up shit to pretend she's not guilty and are in turn blaming the victim. So fuck you.
