A lot of appearences aren't as they are in the books. Harry has blue eyes and his Mom has brown eyes. Hermione's hair isn't really that bushy. Ron isn't super tall and thin.

I didn't think his GoF hair was that bad.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-30 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Hermione in the first two movies was pretty much exactly how I pictured her except for the big teeth. However, the bit with her getting that fixed would have been hard to do in a movie.

As for Ron, they did the best they could casting 10 year olds. I think that turned out pretty well. It's Bill's casting that makes me foam at the mouth.

Harry's eyes, though. HARRY'S EYES!!!! Would it have been *that* hard to get green contacts? It wasn't like they were shooting on a budget!

I agree with the hair. All they had to do was let the nearest person ruffle it right before the scene.

It wasn't bad in context. Their hair was very trendy in the UK at the time. Look at the guys in McFly or other UK celeb teens circa 2004. (The cover of their Wonderland album is the most obvious.) They all had that hair.

It looks like they have pretty much the exact same hair, OP. Older!Harry just has some hair gel going on.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-01 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
You don't know who that is, do you?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-30 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Er... but on the cover, Harry's hair is messy because he's riding a broom chasing after the Golden Snitch. Whereas your "better Harry" has messy hair probably because it's got product in it and deliberately styled that way. Also wouldn't his fellow students wonder why Harry looked 35, with five o'clock shadow?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-30 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
People in high school in other media never seem to wonder why there are 30-year-olds in their classes.

The messy hair thing was actually canon IIRC - there were snippets about him trying to tame his hair that always tried to stick up.

It's true (what d_p said). Joe Flanigan's hair looked like that *in spite of* styling, gel, mousse, and a stylist. It was basically a living creature no one could tame. :)

esteefee: John Sheppards hair sticking straight up with his finger on his lips (mischief)

"better Harry" has uncontrollable cowlicks. His hair can't be controlled even with industrial grade polymer. :D

I don't think it's heresy to say you'd have liked someone else cast in a particular role, though of course some in fandom surely disagree.

However, I don't think that other guy's hair looks messy. It just looks like a fauxhawk.

He's actually what I imagine an older Harry would look like?! I never thought about fancasting him as Harry though.

That older dude's hair is not messy. It is the kind of 'messy' you get after styling it for an hour in front of your bathroom mirror.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-01 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Joe F's hair is naturally sproingy from a million cowlicks. If this link ( to a photo of him on the beach on vacation) doesn't work just google Joe Flanigan Beach Hair. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/407223991278487916/

(Anonymous) 2015-10-01 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Haha yeah not in this case. Joe Flanigan's hair is naturally like that. Here's a video from a con he did back in 2007 talking about the hair.

But Joe Flanigan doesn't have green eyes, either.

He's too old, dude.

Plus, hair can be styled. So you wanted a better makeup team.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-01 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, I've always wondered why Harry wasn't cast as a broad shouldered man.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-01 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
JF could easily play a grown up HP. I've even read fics where Sheppard is a grown up HP.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-01 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
LOL.

That adds a wrinkle.

Joe Flanigan as Harry Potter? I don't really see it.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-01 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I would find it very hard to get past the fact the "better Harry" looks to be about thirty-five instead of eleven.

Haircuts aren't everything.
