That boy looks...like 12. This is really creepy.

Also, maybe both are...wrong?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think OP is saying either is right

Their argument seems to be that if they're going to show a wrong thing with genders set one way, showing the same thing with genders reversed shouldn't be treated differently, equally right or equally wrong

And showing depictions of such in fiction isn't the same as real life

He's a college student, isn't he?

No way he looks twelve. With that throat and the shoulders? Twenty at least. Not creepy at all.

He doesn't look 12 to me, but maybe because I actually SAW him when he was 12? I dunno. It's still a little weird.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
...You do see the part where OP says they still would have disapproved, right? Also, the guy!character is in college and definitely of age, and the actor is 26.

Yeah, no. That guy looks young, but definitely not 12.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I was a twelve-year-old boy. That is not a twelve-year-old boy.

He's way too tall, for one thing. Also, those are some well-developed pectorals, a bit much for a pubescent.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
... Here is what a 12 year old boy looks like

And here is the guy in the secret

Dude, I'm fairly face blind and terrible with ages and I still wouldn't think the second pic was prepubescent. I think you've been spending too much time watching 30 year olds play freshmen on TV.

That actor looks so familiar, what do I know him from? I have this feeling the other role was a really young character because I'm finding this secret lowkey creepy.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
He was Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter series. Also, the characters pictured here aren't having sex. Once in a blue moon they have a scene that is vaguely sexual in tone, but most of the time they have a student/teacher friendship.

I'm still appalled, but mostly because I can't with Annalise/anyone (except maybe Bonnie, because Bonnie may be able to match her in creepiness).
I can't stand her or how she threats everyone (even when she isn't manipulating them) so my reaction was just "Wes, please, just run away while you still can".

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm lowkey going to be seriously disappointed if Wes and Annalise don't hook up.

spoilers for season 2

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-10-04 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to remember when I quit watching...maybe I finished the first season but I think I might've stopped at the mid-season finale. Not sure I care enough to watch again.

However, I will say that I thought these two were going to be a thing from the very beginning, and I wouldn't blame anyone for shipping them because I've definitely been into age differences and power imbalances. I can even see the appeal of these two, though I have to admit to being more intrigued by Annalise and Famke Janssen's character; loved seeing that on my dash and had a "Why did I stop watching this show?" moment.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I know some people have theorized Wes may be Annalise's son. If that were proven to be the case, that would be my biggest reason for being squicked at the idea of these two hooking up.

Outside of that, though? He's an adult, she's an adult, and they can make their own decisions. Sure, it'd be fucked up because of how manipulative Annalise can be and how shady Wes can be...but considering the entire premise of this show, that kind of relationship between them would make total sense in that context.

A law student isn't going to be barely legal.

[personal profile] chardmonster 2015-10-05 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
At least not in the US.

I mean it's still a huge age difference assuming he went straight out of undergrad (and it looks like that), but that's not barely legal.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-05 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
In what universe is your mid-twenties "barely legal"?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-05 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Not barely legal, but still a huge age gap.
A lot of 20-somethings are still mentally and emotionally teenagers.

I don't think hitting 18 magically makes a kid a responsible adult. Legally they are, but mentally they might not be.

Honestly the age difference and her being his professor don't bother me at all. He's old enough.

What makes it weird is the story. You know the killing her husband and covering it up together. Messy.

If it had been a normal going to college story it would have been easy to roll my eyes and that student/teacher thing and moved on.

I'd probably dislike it even more the other way around because I tend to be more protective of female characters. The power imbalance is off the charts, and Annalise is far too manipulative/Wes too uh--- trying to figure out the word. Not naive but or gullible but... eh.

I don't know. I've always thought that TPTB were trying for maternal and screwing up, instead of intentionally romantic.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-05 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I find it sad and a little hilarious that a man's "barely legal" is the same age MRA's consider women to be "hitting the wall" and becoming too old to be attractive anymore.
