Huh, okay. I actually felt like they cut back the focus on her in the first two eps of this season, but with some of the other characters gone I guess her proportion is still pretty high.

I understand, though. When you hate a character, even just a little bit is too much.

She is just so much a generic Whedon heroine. I swear he must have chest of them in his basement and he just unshackles one every time he creates a new property.

Joss' brother and sister-in-law are in charge of the show, not him.

Skye's one of my favorites so I love the focus on her, tbh. I hope she's in Inhumans too!

(Anonymous) 2015-10-10 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Rumor has it Inhumans is off the production schedule.

She is literally the main character though? The show is supposed to be about her. It's always been about her and her journey.

Season 1 was a bit more ensemble, though. It seemed to be as much about Coulson as her, and May and Ward and Fitz and Simmons all got more screen time than they did in season 2.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-10 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, unfortunately it took me a long time to admit that. Silly me, I thought the show was supposed to star Coulson and be about the humans behind the superheroes. I still love the other characters and the universe in general, so I keep watching, but viewers being unhappy about this bait-and-switch (with, as mentioned above by another poster, a stereotypical and tiresome Whedon heroine, no less) is not irrational, in my opinion.

I felt exactly this way about Jennifer Keller on SGA. Still haven't gotten over it.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-11 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god yes. Don't even remind me about what a terrible choice it was to bring her on.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-11 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
omg, i know. just... whyy

(Anonymous) 2015-10-10 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't like her at first, but after a few episodes she grew on me & now I love her.

But I do understand hating a character & you don't even quite know why you hate them & their very existence causes you existential suffering. I get it, OP. I've been there.

I quit watching the show largely because of how annoying she was.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-10 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
She's now an expert martial artist with super powers as well as the ultimate hacker. I'm thinking Daisy is not her real name either.

Same. I couldn't stand her character. She was largely predictable and generic and augh. At the end of the day it turned out I didn't really enjoy any of the characters really, except for May, and I don't regret quitting. Her character is terribly written and really shouldn't be the main.

I like her but I get what you mean, when you don't like a character any amount of focus on them can feel like too much.

I wasn't a major fan when the show started, but she grew on me, especially by S2. (She still wasn't my favorite character, or maybe even in my top five, but I liked her.)

Unfortunately I lost interest around mid-S2 when it looked like the cast was going to split up (which evidently didn't happen? at least not for long) and I haven't caught up. I'm still undecided on if I want to or not.

I actually don't hate her or even dislike her, but I do resent the fact that she's taken over the show (and that sometimes affects my feelings for the character). I honestly thought it was an ensemble show, that's how it still seems to be marketed. But even though it has so many great characters, it always seems to come back to her and how amazing she is.

I do have to admit these latest episodes weren't as bad as the latter half of the second season. And there are a few other reasons why I've grown less fond of the show. Last year I was so excited about the new season and such a huge fan, now it's just another show I watch.

Yeah I really don't like her either. And I really didn't like finding out she was the main point of the show. Whether she can act or not has generated a lot of wank, but I don't think whatever she's doing is selling it to me, so. I can't quite put my finger on why I find her so annoying, perhaps that she's supposed to be both the audience identification figure (all her naive moral questions to Coulson), and the magic super person who slices! and dices! all while acting like a nonchalant sensitive teenager.

At least I like her fashion sense? She hasn't been enough to make me quit the show, not yet.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-11 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I like her, but prefer the show as an ensemble. But seriously, anything to get the focus off Coulson. He was a great supporting character but he absolutely couldn't carry a show. I don't know if it's the actor or the writing or some kind of Rule of Cool applying only to his brief appearances, but he's absolutely grating.

Sorry you have terrible taste, anon.

Except it's Daisy Johnson (Quake from the comics) origin story... has been from the beginning. All these "WAH WHEDON" excuses are hilarious. The story is an adaptation out of the comics (With Coulson filling Fury's role but that's a whole other kettle of fish).

But god forbid we give more than a five minute flash back to a female superhero.
