F!S Anon Meme (the ??th!)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required.
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

I'll be linking some general/general-fandom threads I see so people don't repost new threads with the same stuff. If you want me to link your thread up here, drop a link in the first comment!

So, who else likes cooking shows? What are your favorites? Do you mainly watch them online (like on YouTube) or on TV? What about cooking competition shows, like Chopped? Ever actually made anything from a cooking show?

Chopped and Worst Cooks In America on TV
Nerdy Nummies on Youtube

I've never tried making the things. I would screw it up so bad :(

Nerdy Nummies

If you could screw up making garbage food from pre-made mixes then you probably should just stop trying altogether.

Because one's decorating ability rests solely on whether or not the cake is made from scratch.

Or! Maybe instead of being a dick, you could rec a better fandom-related cooking channel!

Oh dear I feel I will give away my identity...

But I really used to like Iron Chef, anything Nigella Lawson has ever done, anything Michael Smith has ever done, most Heston Blumenthal shows, and most Jaimie Oliver shows (though he's a bit insufferable now).

I like the Great British Bake Off. It's not so cutthroaty among the contestants.

Was about to comment this. Besides, I love baking as well. I have yet to try any recipes, but I probably will when I get a hankering for something I've seen on the shadow.

I've been thinking about checking that one out? I'm American, but it was put on Netflix recently and well I love cooking shows and people certainly seem to like it, so...

Try it out! PBS is airing season 4 right now which is the first I've seen of the show. Netflix has season 1 and I have it in my que.

Highly recommend. IMO season 5 and 6 (which just finished) were the best seasons but they're all pretty good.

I love the bake off. It's just so RELAXING for a competition and full of lovely, nice people.

I've only seen one episode. The contestants had to make a savory/meat pie and a sweet/dessert one; someone made a chorizo pie that sounded so good I had to look up a recipe for it.

I should really watch it more often.

Did you ever see Sweet Genius? It was a dessert competition show that ran for just a couple seasons on Food Network, and it was the most delightfully bonkers thing I have ever seen.

Oh my god I LOVED Sweet Genius! It was so fucking wild, I wish they still aired it. Ron Ben Israel was so kooky.

"Kooky" is really the only word for it, isn't it? Off-the-wall goofy without being cloying or (usually) feeling forced. And it seems like the contestants were nicer in general than they are on most competitive reality shows.

I love all the competition ones. Masterchef. Top Chef. Chopped. Cutthroat Kitchen. Iron Chef. Beat Bobby Flay. All those ones that only lasted a season or two.

I recently watched an episode of Mystery Diners and enjoyed it, but some googling of the show led me to discover it is faked which is a huge disappointment.

Hell's Kitchen, Masterchef Australia and Come Dine with Me (where do they find all those crazy people??).

Come Dine With Me UK is one of the greatest shows ever.

I occasionally watch Chopped, but the one cooking show I really enjoy watching when I get the chance is Cutthroat Kitchen. I enjoy the sabotage nature of it and the fact that a lot of the cooks manage to pull it off.

And while I don't watch the show, I enjoy the recaps of Top Chef over on Trashtalktv. J-Mo's descriptions of the food and nicknames for the contestants make me smile.

I'm a sucker for restaurant improvement shows. The UK Kitchen Nightmares is still my favorite (and my favorite reality show, period) ... the US version is a huge step down but acceptable. I watch Bar Rescue and Restaurant Impossible on occasion but there's too much staged drama and talking about ~~feelings~~ that gets in the way of the actual menu planning and remodeling. :/

I really hate Chopped & all those ridiculously dramatic, sob-story-filled reality competition shows. The regular ones are fun to watch, though!

I fucking love cooking shows. I've actually been taking to ones that introduce things simply and ones that work with certain ingredients (like fresh vegetables).

Also, Cooking competition shows are awesome. I mean, I like Chopped, but Cutthroat Kitchen is my thing. It's like the Mario Party of cooking competitions, only ten times more Cutthroat.
