F!S Anon Meme (the ??th!)

F!S Anon Meme (the ??th!)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required.
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

I'll be linking some general/general-fandom threads I see so people don't repost new threads with the same stuff. If you want me to link your thread up here, drop a link in the first comment!

General:
Halloween costumes

Fandom-general:
Porn comics
F/F recs
Guilty pleasures

Fandom-specific:
Girl Meets World

What's your opinion of fanfic writers who have huge outputs of fanfic? Is it off putting or inspiring or something else?

I'm curious, as I'm not a particularly prolific author and so, I upload fic in random/unpredictable bursts. Whereas I follow a few authors who upload multiple pieces of fic, at least multiple times a day often for a multitude of fandoms.

...why would it be off putting?

Jealousy. I don't hate that, but I can feel the sting when it seems others do things I find hard without effort. But that's life I guess. (And I hope I annoy the shit out of people in other areas.)

OP but I would think it's because when there's more fic, it's likely to be of lesser quality.

I agree with this.

Good for them. Seriously I admire people who can do it.

I can't really understand why someone would find it off putting or judge someone for it. Unless they're insecure and butthurt. That's their problem.

Being able to write a lot is an accomplishment and something I wish I could do.

I'd wonder about the quality of the fic, personally.

There's a difference between being prolific and phoning shit in for more kudos.

This, pretty much. I'd still give them a shot, but I'd go into it with significant reservations.

Yup, agreed.

I don't care. If they manage to update that often, good for them.

If the fic is atrocious and they don't seem to put any effort into it I'm going to pass it up and avoid them, but that's about it.

Well, it's awesome if we have fandoms and ships in common, way less awesome if we don't.

I admire writers who can turn out a good or at least decent quality fic every week, or a long fic every month or so. That's really amazing to me.

But when a person is posting a couple of fics every day, to me it just registers as spam, and the person comes across as an immature writer, because they're obviously not spending much time with their internal editor.

I guess if someone was posting fics every day and they were genuinely good fics, I might have to change my opinion of their writing, but I have never once seen that happen. Every time I've seen a writer who turns out fics like that, the fics always turn out to be either horrible, or unspeakably bland, or else they're all Mary Sue fics in which the main character gets together with a character who is obviously a stand in for the writer.

Mmm, it's not necessarily off-putting, but I do have to wonder about the quality of their writing if they're submitting something every day.
