F!S Anon Meme (the ??th!)

F!S Anon Meme (the ??th!)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required.
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

I'll be linking some general/general-fandom threads I see so people don't repost new threads with the same stuff. If you want me to link your thread up here, drop a link in the first comment!

Do you enjoy failure?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-18 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
How long would you be happy performing the same task unsuccessfully?

Depends on the task, how many funny ways there are to fail, and whether I am tasked to make the thing fail e.g. finding bugs

I'm so tired. I was confused why finding bugs (like, insects) = failure...

Bugs are gross, therefore finding bugs = failing at trying not to see bugs

I guess it depends on how enjoyable performing the task is, and on how you define success.

For example, I write fanfic. My fanfic consistently gets zero to few reviews. If your metric is critic success (lol) I'm pretty unsuccessful. However, I find writing enjoyable, and since I enjoy the technical aspect of writing I get a kick out of trying out new things and writing in different styles, so I wouldn't consider it totally unsuccessful.

That said, if the situation continues like this I'm probably going to stop posting what I write and all the freeloaders reading my fic without reviewing can go fuck a cow :I

I struggle with learned helplessness to a pretty high degree, so for me failure is always hellish, because it just reinforces my instinctive feeling that it's not even worth trying to do anything because I will always fail.

Just trying once is really hard for me. Trying again after I've failed requires massive effort. I've been making progress lately and fighting back against that helpless, self-defeating mentality, but it's pretty brutal and very slow going.

Define success/failure. And am I having fun doing it?

The more fragile a state of mind I'm in, the less positive I am about improvement, the less able I am to learn, the less fun I'm having, and the less happy I am to fuck up at something. For example, when I went through a vicious bout of depression and low self esteem, getting the notes wrong when practising the violin was unbearable, and got me crying about what a failure I was, so I gave it up.
