Ironically, the whole situation makes me sad because I really want to love this film (as I love all 6 of the Star Wars films) BECAUSE of its cast.

But I'm pretty sure I'm going to not like it because I really dislike JJ Abrams' work and it seems like Han is his favorite character whereas Han was always by far my least favorite of the original trio.

Han is my favorite, but I worry that JJ Abrams may be one of those dudes that totally reads his character wrong and likes him for the wrong reasons.

Ugh, I'm wording that very wrong, but I'm not sure how to word it correctly... But, like, the whole 'space casanova' character interpretation that a lot of guys have that isn't really supported by what we see on screen, like...

IDK, I just don't really trust JJ Abrams to correctly interpret characters and their relationships after the Trek reboot.

I actually like Han BEST in ROTJ but a lot of the fans seem to dislike him there, describing him as "tamed" or "whipped" which pisses me off.

I just look at what he did with Jim Kirk and it was just so horrible -- like that deleted (thank god) scene of Kirk apologizing to another Orion woman because he mistakes her for Gaila. BECAUSE ALL GREEN WOMEN LOOK THE SAME LOL.

Or when Kirk peeps or Uhura and Carol.

Or the creepy scene of Kirk sexing up twin cat women.

It's so fucking juvenile and I really, really dislike Abrams' take on that character which seems to be drawn on what he sees as a Han Solo type rebel/bad boy/ladies' man figure.

Just...please no.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
He's giving Han the heroic sacrifice that Lucas didn't in Empire, if that helps.

The problem with Han is Harrison Ford IMO I'm surprised he accepted to even be in this movie.

Me too, except I see no point in going all agnostic "I'm the rational one unlike BOTH SIDES" over this. I'm specifically laughing about people getting angry over the black guy.

Yup. That, and them getting angry over omg A GURRRRLLL!

It's fucking ridiculous.

Fun fact: Luke was originally scripted as a girl.

The wank just confuses me. Is it just from people who only know about Star Wars through vague popculture osmosis and are just going "A mainstream movie with a black guy! And it's not Will Smith! Time to ragepoop!" ?

I mean at least the "They're infecting the books with TEH GAYS!!!!" wank sort of makes sense since that's at least somewhat relatively new.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, not all of the criticism of the Star Wars book (Aftermath) was due to the inclusion of gay characters.

The writing style of that book was pretty painful and the author was kind of an asshole.

Eh, I don't blame people for being irritated about the race wank, or the people who have an issue with Rey being a main character (maybe THE main character). That kind of attitude is insulting, but at the same time I can understand laughing about it because it's so bizarre and out of place.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-02 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I don't think those who are irritated about the wank and call people out on their racism and sexism are the crazy ones here, or at the same level of those who want to boycott a movie just because a black guy is in the poster and a woman is the main character

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Who the fuck cares, as long as it keeps his sweaty paws off of Star Trek for a couple of movies he can shit on Star Wars all he wants. JJ already ruined Star Wars two movies ago.

I just wonder How Abrams will fit in his beloved product placement.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
How on earth did JJ ruin Star Wars two movies ago?

You sound so bitter and petty. Just because you didn't like what he did with trek you don't have to hope that sw fans get a shitty movie that makes them angry too. WHY??

Anyway, you have issues. All these bitter over the top comments about JJ and trek were probably left by you.
The point of the secret is the race wank about a black guy being one of the leads STOP DERAILING THE TOPIC! Make your own secrets if you want to hate on the trek movies.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-01 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-01 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of ironic that it took JJ to have the first star wars movie where the protagonist is a woman and her co-protagonist is a man of color. No wonder why some star wars stans are having strokes..they probably would get along well with those who hate on the trek reboot for putting Uhura at the same level of Mccoy, and for making her the woman Spock loves (Spock having a girlfriend would alone make some ppl bleed blood from their noses, him kissing a black girl killed racists)
They should all go to group therapy.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-01 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You do realize that a lot of people hated new Trek for like...a ton of reasons, right?

Fridging Amanda...destroying Vulcan and ignoring the implications in the sequel...having no named female characters who don't also appear in their underwear...whitewashing Khan...having the first movie's plot basically rip off Star Wars: A New Hope...turning Kirk into a creepy peeping Tom...having Kirk become an asshole and yet he also becomes captain for no reason...eliminating Spock's main/defining character conflict...rehashing the plot of Wrath of Khan.

I mean, the list goes on and ON.

Similarly, I'm not enthusiastic about the new films because it looks like it's gonna pander to the original trilogy fanboys. And as a fan of both the prequels and originals, the whole pandering with "practical effects" has been getting on my last nerve. As though the prequels didn't use more miniatures than the entire original trilogy...

Can I call you Lucy? Because you remind me of a REALLY butthurt person I know named Lucy. She's a Beatles fan and can't stand anyone criticizing John Lennon. Thinks that everyone who dislikes him is wrong, as though there's no legitimate reason to dislike the guy. Which is ridiculous if you know some of the crap Lennon has done.
