Common things that you just don't get

[personal profile] philstar22 2015-11-21 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
What are some common things that people do that you just don't get.

Like, for example, I don't get putting a ton of ice in drinks and making them freezing cold. That just makes my sinuses and teeth hurt. I prefer things closer to room temperature.

I also don't get milk on cereal. I don't want my cereal to be wet or soggy. I like it the way it is.

Are you me? I thought I was the only who felt this way about ice and milk in cereal?

Agree with the ice. I do occasionally like milk but I eat it fast.

I was going to say this. So... are all three of us the same person?

The media's constant obsession with beating one thing into the ground. It's been a week now and it's still almost 24/7 coverage of the the attacks in France. Maybe it makes me a heartless bitch, but there are other things going on in the world.

Nah, I get you, and I fucking live here. I just wish we could move on instead on lingering on it and basically playing their game.

Nah, doesn't make you heartless but it really just gives the terrorists the attention they've been whoring themselves out for.

I think that applies to any constant, repetitive, news commentary of a disaster. Maybe terrorist attacks are a tad worse because in my mind I can't help but think constantly bringing it up, again and again for ages afterwards gives more power to the terrorists.

But then I also got sick of constant coverage of the Bali Nine leaders impending execution, badly enough that when a mention came up of them a few days ago in relation to political discussions with Indonesia, I felt tired of it again.

Well, ice in drinks can sometimes be refreshing on a hot day.

Otherwise...cold liquids just zap your energy. It's best to have water at least room temperature. Or I guess, just don't order a ton of the cold drink.

I get milk on cereal, depending on the cereal.

I just don't get the existence of cereal at all. Then again, I prefer to start my day with something hot/fresh... or close enough to it.

Re: Common things that you just don't get

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed on the ice thing. Unless it's meltingly hot outside I prefer room temperature drinks. And even if it is that hot I just like a few ice cubes to make the drink cool, not a fuckton so even the tiniest of sips will give you brain freeze.

I disagree on cereal, though. Aside from dry cereal being, well, too dry (if I eat too much dry cereal it hurts my gums), it also just tastes way more better with milk. The trick is to only put as much cereal into the bowl as you will be able to eat before it gets soggy.

Re: Common things that you just don't get

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't get ice in drinks either. It also waters them down, you end up with less of the drink, and what's the point of that? (obviously these criticisms don't apply if it's just ice water). Even on a really hot day, I'd rather have just a little bit of ice and have it feel cool, but not too cold.

Milk in cereal, though? I gotta admit, I like my cereal soft. If I wanted crunch, I'd probably just have toast.

I don't use ice at home. But when I go out to eat, I prefer water with ice. Reason is that I drink so much water that the ice slows the constant refilling!

Milk makes cereal taste better! Although there is definitely something to be said for just eating a box of Frosties dry, one by one, as a snack.

I don't get loud music. Turning music up to a certain volume does make me feel more cheerful than just listening with headphones, but how can anyone enjoy music when they've put it up so loud it's blaring through the entire building? I mean, if I can hear every beat down in my room, surely it must be turning the person who's put it on deaf?

Seriously, there is nothing worse than watered-down sodapop. It comes out of the fountain cold; I do not get why people want ice in it. Plus all the ice leaves less room for the actual drink.

I don't get cereal as a breakfast food in general, sure it's quick but I'd rather have some toast or eggs to start my day off rather than something that gets soggy and awful very quickly(also cold). It probably doesn't help that I don't like the taste of most cereal as well.

Diet sodas, specifically Diet Coke. It tastes terrible to me, sticky sweet with a sour chemical aftertaste like licking a metal lamp post. I secretly think that if a person drinks diet coke regularly, their palate must not be terribly sensitive to flavors in general, or they've screwed it up with artificial sweeteners.

Cinnamon and apples. I love apples but hate cinnamon which sucks because it is so hard to find apple pastries that don't have cinnamon.

Also, adding bacon to everything. Bacon is delicious but only on its own.

The only drinks I prefer icy cold are super sweet sodas and cider. I'm not too fond of loads of ice in drinks (just fresh out of the fridge cold is great) but on the other hand, I really like chewing ice cubes.

Breakfast. I hate eating in the mornings. I don't get hungry until eleven and trying to eat before then makes my stomach hurt.

Rising early is another one. I've never been able to fall asleep for midnight, so I just do all my chores and stuff at night. Rising with the sun would make me grouchy for the rest of the day.

Buy campers, park them in camping sites next to their regular neighbours from home (who's also into camper life), give their kids money to the local waterpark/fair/playland/whatever to occupy them and then sit around drinking alcohol and listen to the neighbours do the same 20 inches away. When they're not quarrelling with the same neighbours or suffocating or blowing them self sky high with propane tanks lacking maintenance or other fun stuff. Just WHY?

YES! This! Dry cereal is just fine to me.

As for the ice in drinks, if the drink is really warm (like, hasn't been refrigerated at all yet), I might put one or two clumps of ice in to get it a little cold. Otherwise, yeah, I don't like ice in my drinks, either (unless it already comes that way at a restaurant and I've got a straw. That's okay).

Cola and coffee. More-so the first than the second because I can occasionally stand coffee-flavoured things, occasionally.

I like drinks cold. The issue of whether ice may dilute it may be something, but summer is coming and I currently feel I don't have enough ice trays as it is.

I am used to milk on cereal, but I agree with the sog. That is probably one of the reasons I have not seriously had cereal in years (except when I eat frosted Mini Wheats dry).
