And that still makes no sense, because when you get to the airport, you call the cops/neighbor/whoever and have them get the kid/you go back home.

You *talk to your family* on the drive to the airport, you *look at your kids* while you're rushing around getting ready and who doesn't go up to check on a pre-teen kid before a long trip, to make sure they've packed/dressed/gotten up/eaten?

Just so fucking stupid.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
He was supposed to be in the van with the other kids. The van that wasn't being driven by his parents.

Also, they overslept, were in a rush, and there were something like 15 other people to account for.

...but wait, why am I talking about this with you? You don't like things unless they're 100% perfectly realistic.

*rolls eyes*

Why are you? Please, go argue with everyone else who thinks it's stupid and unrealistic, just like me.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh people have been? But you're a special case. It's like you don't know what "fantasy" means.

[personal profile] tabaqui 2015-11-22 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
And it's like *you* don't know what 'personal preference' means. Meaning - i hate unrealistic, stupid shite that writers use to 'make plot happen' when they could use their brains and think of something intelligent and interesting and *more real*.

Jayzus. Please, like what you like and talk about it all you want. I'll like what *i* like and do the same. It's kinda the damn *point* of this whole comm.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and you sit there and look down your nose at anyone who thinks different because the ONLY reason for anything ever being unrealistic is the person writing it is stupid and unable to use their brain. They never write things because they think it's funny or want escapism, nope.

Like. You're a smug, arrogant bitch, and even when people here disagree with you NICELY you get hostile and condescending. You're obnoxious.

[personal profile] tabaqui 2015-11-22 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, i'm 'looking down my nose'. Gimme a break. You're the once calling names, here, and being obnoxious and hostile. Give it a rest.

DA. *You* are just being very unpleasant here, and not helping your cause one bit.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Like I said, he's in the attic, out of the way, and one of the adults says he's already dressed, ready and in the car. So why go up to the attic to check on a child who is already in the car? And since they were going in multiple cars, it's easy enough to assume that kevin us just in the other car. Stupid all around on behahlf of the adults, yes, but at least they tried to come up with a reason for it and show it, rather than starting the movie with Kevin waking up and being all, hey, they've all left me!

There was a big fuss over here a few years ago when the Prime Minister and his family went to a pub for lunch and ended up leaving their daughter at the pub, and were home/nearly home when they realise and had to turn back. And this in a modern day world with mobile phones and such.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's almost like Home Alone is an exaggerated movie where small feasible things are taken and stretched for the sake of comedy!

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
NO WAI

YOU ARE MADE OF THE KIDDING

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
DIDNT YOU KNOW?! ALL COMEDIES ARE SERIOUS AND ONLY PORTRAY REALISTIC SITUATIONS BUT ONLY REALISTIC SITUATIONS THAT TABAQUI APROVES AS REALISTIC, ANYTHING ELSE IS STUPID.

THEY NEVER TAKE A COMMON PROBLEM AND FEAR OF PARENTS OR CHILDREN, TWEAK THE SCENARIO THEN RUN WITH IT!

WHAT MOVIE WOULD DO THAT?!

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's not that unrealistic tbh. My family is only of five people and they forget things (and yes that does include kids sometimes) all the time, espcially in a rush.
In Home Alone's case, the family was literally like 18+ people and they were all in an extreme hurry to get to the airport, and most of the little kids were in the back of a van where the parents couldn't see or talk to them easily. It's not thaaaat big of a strech.

I don't wanna sound mean or anything, but this really isn't that big of a plot hole as you're making it out to be imo.

[personal profile] tabaqui 2015-11-23 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
To me - my opinion here - the irritation i feel at what seems a completely ridiculous and fixable situation makes the move unfun. (Well, that and the over-the-top violence.)

I just wish writers would find intelligent, interesting and *plausible* ways to make a plot point happen. Like slasher/horror movies, when people do incredibly stupid things and die. Or hell, Walking Dead!!

Why can't they find ways for the plot to move forward in *smart* ways, instead of dumbing down characters and making hand-wavey things happen to do that, instead? I think it would make for much more interesting stories all together.

And, to placate whatever anon is so exercised - I DON'T THINK ANYONE IS STUPID FOR WATCHING OR ENJOYING HOME FUCKING ALONE. I just personally think the movies are stupid and a bit gross and like other anon said, kid-slasher movies, and i do *not* like them.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I think the problem is that you keep doing things like implying that the way the plot works is unintelligent, and saying that it's the result of writers being unwilling to use their brains, and not being smart, and calling them stupid. When you're using language like that, it's hard not to read it as a value judgment. And if it's a value judgment, it's hard not to take that and extend it to the viewers who enjoy it and don't agree that its stupid.

[personal profile] tabaqui 2015-11-23 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes, it *is* a judgement. On the writers. I judge them very harshly, because they have all kinds of opportunities to do other things, but they don't.

I don't judge people watching, as i said, because hey - I like some pretty stupid things, and will enjoy stuff that is *otherwise* enjoyable.

But i will harshly judge the writers of even my *very favorite* stuff when they do that kind of stupid thing, and have done so vocally and publicly in the past, and will again. Hell - ask me about stupid plot crap in Supernatural, i'll tell you things that irritated the piss out of me, and made me want to find the writers and smack them with a box of #2 Ticonderoga pencils.

There's enough stuff in SPN that i *like* to make those missteps something i can overlook. In something like HA, there really is *not*. Ditto for most slasher movies (i don't watch them), torture porn stuff, etc. Walking Dead is getting on my last nerve, but i still like Maggie and Daryl and Michonne and Carl enough to want to know what happens to them.

If i think the writers of a movie or tv show are making stupid plot decisions, well, i shall say 'they are making stupid plot decisions' or 'they are being stupid'.

But i don't believe that i have ever said 'and people who like these movies/tv shows are stupid for watching and are stupid'.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Just because you dislike a trope or genre doesn't mean it's stupid writing. However your insistence that stuff you don't like is therefore unintelligent and stupid? That's unintelligent and stupid, and we all recognise you're being this.

I think you give more credit to the human race than you should. Humans can be very stupid. And when they are panicked or overly stressed, even more so. Most people in a zombie apocalypse are not going to die because of some smart way. They are going to die because they tripped while running, or ran out of food, or trapped themselves in a building.
tabaqui: (Default)

[personal profile] tabaqui 2015-11-23 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well, maybe. But like on WD, they've survived *all this stuff*, done all these things, are like - practically level 1 million zombie killers and they still have them do *really stupid things* for plot. Just...arrgh!

After several years of surviving, you'd think they could *eliminate* the stupid stuff. Tripping while running is an accident you can't really foresee, but having a loud argument when you *know* the zombies can hear you, and then acting all surprised when ...they hear you? Meh.

People fuck up doing normal stuff all the time. Sometimes you get less sleep and woops car crash! You can only be prepared so much. Stupid mistakes happen.

Yeah but just because you don't like or enjoy them, does not make the writers work stupid or unintelligent or any more of the words you've been throwing about. Ppl are irritated because you're being judgemental and elitist because you don't enjoy a genre.

Fine, it doesn't appeal to you. You don't get that kind of material and it's fine you don't understand that. But shitting on it as unintelligent and shitty because YOU find it unfunny isn't the right way to express you distaste.

Get over it

Me saying the writing/writers are being stupid/writing stupid plots *does not reflect* on the people who *enjoy* various shows, just on my opinion of the writers.

Once again - I have never said *the fans* are stupid, and have clearly stated i find the writers of *things i enjoy* to be stupid/writing stupid things sometimes, too. It is not my fault that you seem to be over-identifying with the writers.

Get over it, as you so succinctly said.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT was talking about the writers, though, not the fans.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ayrt

I didn't even mention the fans. Maybe your problem here is you're making two sides of an argument up but not taking in what anyone else is saying.

Like. My point went right over your head and you made it about the fans. That I didn't even talk about.

They tried calling the cops. The whole movie is about a series of mistakes that let him roam free and without parents.
