(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 12:24 am (UTC)(link)A simple "Prefer not to answer" would have done the job. Or just not answering.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 12:50 am (UTC)(link)There is no difference. Some people are curious about other people, particularly about ways that other people are different.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 01:59 am (UTC)(link)To answer your question, anon: it's sort of a mixed bag! I would be thrilled to have a fully "female" (if you will) set of organs, and would happily take the associated pain of periods to go along with them. But, on the other hand, I can't say I'm 100% unhappy that I don't experience a monthly crippling pain like clockwork either, haha. So I guess it's sort of bittersweet knowledge? If that makes sense?
Honestly I have to imagine it's worse for transmen on that, just 'cause it's easy to ignore what isn't there. I don't think about periods unless they're brought up; pre- or non-op non-hormone'd transmen would have to deal with them still.
Re: Ugh. Let's talk about periods
(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 03:39 am (UTC)(link)NAYRT, but this is a really interesting point and makes complete sense to me.

For the record, and you probably know this, but not all women suffer from their periods or even have to pay much attention to them.
My periods are almost unnoticeable (light bleeding, and no other symptoms whatsoever) and I can say that I don't really think about it much. It's just a thing that happens - like when the laundry piles up and you have to dump it in the washer, only less frequent than that.
I sometimes wonder if most men and trans women know that about periods. I'm never sure. The people who talk about their periods tend to be the people who have bad ones (which makes sense), so sometimes I wonder if people who don't have periods are given the impression that they're all horrible and painful and messy and The Worst.
Re: Ugh. Let's talk about periods
(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 04:45 am (UTC)(link)Ah, I see there is a thread devoted to discussing this lower down. Oops. Never mind.

Ah, yeah, no, I should have been clearer, sorry-- I'm going by the fact that pretty much all of the women in my family have pretty debilitating cramps with theirs, so I could only assume I'd be much the same. I have two sisters and a lot of cis-female friends, so I know quite a bit about periods!
Re: Ugh. Let's talk about periods
(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 05:19 am (UTC)(link)In fact, looking at what I said, it kind of seemed like I was saying you might not know things other women know, which wasn't great of me and I apologize.
I guess I sometimes wonder if everybody, including cis women, know that plenty of women have mild periods. Because so much of the talk is about how awful they are, to the point where sometimes I start to wonder if I'm this weird, rare, lucky person. I mean, apart from the thread that sprung up below in response to this one, I've never seen a conversation where women talk about how low-key and painless their periods are. I guess because it's not like it's something we need to vent or get moral support for.
But I expressed it kinda badly.
Re: Ugh. Let's talk about periods
(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 05:36 am (UTC)(link)And yeah, I think you kind of hit the nail on the head-- not to sink to clichés, but misery loves company, so it makes sense that people with shitty periods will band together to commiserate about it and lend support, where I suppose there isn't as much to say about an easy one.
