I think your problem here is more your automatic view of sex workers as disease ridden less-than-human beings not deserving of such an important and amazing and wonderful thing as a, gasp, virginity

I hope you don't apply the same to real life, but so many people do that it's hard to tell

(Anonymous) 2015-12-10 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
While I think that it is silly to not like character for going to a prostitute (I think prostitution should be legalized and regulated in the US), I don't know why you think OP is going with "sex workers as disease ridden less-than-human beings".

I read it as the face that many times it is hard to determine whether or not a prostitute is working of their own free will and has not been pressured/sold into the sex trade.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-10 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Because in the third paragraph they compare "fucking a prostitute" to "a girl he cared about" meaning its the emotional attachment the op values in the exchange and not the messed-upness or lack thereof of the system

(Anonymous) 2015-12-10 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
And where do you get "disease ridden" or "less-than-human" from watching someone's first time to be with someone they have an emotional attachment to?

From them comparing the pure purity of a girl they care about to a dirty, dirty prostitute? It's not really hard. Maybe op means totally well but so many other people share the opinion that like I said, I hope they mean as well as they could possibly mean but I wouldn't be surprised if they held that opinion.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
But OP never says that prostitutes are the ones who are dirty, the act of having sex with them is, and in the end the boys are dirty too.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
*shrug* If you insist, I'm not gonna change your mind. But this secret reads so much like other anti sex worker things I've read, especially the portion about how having sex with a prostitute makes someone else dirty too because the implicit meaning is their dirtiness rubs off on you. The vibe I get from this secret is exactly the same as those people. If op didn't mean it that way then maybe they didn't, but it sure reads like that to me as someone very familiar with anti-sex worker rhetoric

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Are you familiar with anime anime fandoms? Because a lot of anime fans truly believe that a character having sex with someone other than the love of their lives = SLUT.

THEY NEVER CALLED PROSTITUTES DIRTY! They said having sex with a prostitute feels dirty to them. This could easily mean it feels dirty (a synonym for wrong in this context) because prostitutes may be forced into the sex trade.

Or they feel it is dirty because OP thinks that sex should be accompanied with meaningful relationships.

> something about fucking prostitutes feels too dirty to me

It's implied in the language of the secret. Learn to read between the lines bro.

You'd think saying the exact same thing over and over again would make it true, and yet here we are.

No, it really couldn't.

The reason why is also a better argument against the idea that the OP is calling prostitutes 'dirty' - the prostitutes are not considered in the equation at all.

It's all about the pure purity of only boning 'girls they care about'.

The prostitutes could be replaced with 'girls met at a bar', 'their friend's cute cousin who's visiting from abroad' or any other form of one night stand.

They're not calling sex workers, specifically, dirty - they're calling all casual sex dirty.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree with this. Even the use of the word "fucking" (which has a lot of negative / vulgar / dirty / rough / emotionless connotations) to describe having sex with a prostitute as opposed to the more neutral "have sex" used to describe having sex with a "girl they cared about" is pretty telling.

I'm going to guess OP is either trying to stir up prostitute wank or is pretty young and has messed up views of sex and purity (which is OK, but something to work on growing out of).

(Anonymous) 2015-12-10 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
The entire secret is about prostitutes being dirty and fucking prostitutes being dirty, not how exploitative the sex trade is. If OP had sympathy for the people caught up in it, they wouldn't be calling the prostitutes dirty, they'd be calling the sex trade questionable and abusive. If you think someone is being exploited, you wouldn't call them dirty

To give you an idea of how off you are, I came to the comments expecting a bunch of accusations of the OP being a radfem for judging men as dirty and ruined for sleeping with prostitutes (which in real life would be understandable, but in a show you don't need to worry that the sex workers aren't really working voluntarily like they say they are, because they are literally not real).

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
DA

Pointing out it's not ayrt that brought up the voluntary or not issue, that was the anon ayrt is replying to

Sounds more to me like "sex without love is dirty", OP is probably a virgin with weird views on sex, like sex is supposed to be this ~magical~ thing.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I can't justify the "dirty" part, but I can imagine OP trying to justify some jealousy, since my reaction to finding out some guy went to a prostitute would be to say "Okay, so where's MY fucking brothel full of dudes who have sex with women?!?" It's not like I could just drive out to the boonies and find something like the Bunny Ranch but with guys. Back in the day, it took me a damn long time to find a guy who'd have sex with me who didn't seem like he'd get clingy or weird (some guys get really, really weird about having sex with a virgin) but also wasn't an asshole who would not care at all. It's not about love, it's about respect.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
da

This is what I get from the secret, not "prostitutes are 'dirty' people".

Though I don't want to assume OP isn't self-aware about how their views on sex sound. I was like that once. And if it's a knee-jerk thing about characters and not a universal judgement that you uphold even after second thoughts, take it easy OP.

And idk anything about the context in the anime, so there could be something I'm missing too.
