I think your problem here is more your automatic view of sex workers as disease ridden less-than-human beings not deserving of such an important and amazing and wonderful thing as a, gasp, virginity

I hope you don't apply the same to real life, but so many people do that it's hard to tell

(Anonymous) 2015-12-10 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
While I think that it is silly to not like character for going to a prostitute (I think prostitution should be legalized and regulated in the US), I don't know why you think OP is going with "sex workers as disease ridden less-than-human beings".

I read it as the face that many times it is hard to determine whether or not a prostitute is working of their own free will and has not been pressured/sold into the sex trade.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-10 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Because in the third paragraph they compare "fucking a prostitute" to "a girl he cared about" meaning its the emotional attachment the op values in the exchange and not the messed-upness or lack thereof of the system

(Anonymous) 2015-12-10 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
And where do you get "disease ridden" or "less-than-human" from watching someone's first time to be with someone they have an emotional attachment to?

The entire secret is about prostitutes being dirty and fucking prostitutes being dirty, not how exploitative the sex trade is. If OP had sympathy for the people caught up in it, they wouldn't be calling the prostitutes dirty, they'd be calling the sex trade questionable and abusive. If you think someone is being exploited, you wouldn't call them dirty

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
THEY NEVER CALLED PROSTITUTES DIRTY! They said having sex with a prostitute feels dirty to them. This could easily mean it feels dirty (a synonym for wrong in this context) because prostitutes may be forced into the sex trade.

Or they feel it is dirty because OP thinks that sex should be accompanied with meaningful relationships.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
To give you an idea of how off you are, I came to the comments expecting a bunch of accusations of the OP being a radfem for judging men as dirty and ruined for sleeping with prostitutes (which in real life would be understandable, but in a show you don't need to worry that the sex workers aren't really working voluntarily like they say they are, because they are literally not real).

Sounds more to me like "sex without love is dirty", OP is probably a virgin with weird views on sex, like sex is supposed to be this ~magical~ thing.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I can't justify the "dirty" part, but I can imagine OP trying to justify some jealousy, since my reaction to finding out some guy went to a prostitute would be to say "Okay, so where's MY fucking brothel full of dudes who have sex with women?!?" It's not like I could just drive out to the boonies and find something like the Bunny Ranch but with guys. Back in the day, it took me a damn long time to find a guy who'd have sex with me who didn't seem like he'd get clingy or weird (some guys get really, really weird about having sex with a virgin) but also wasn't an asshole who would not care at all. It's not about love, it's about respect.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
da

This is what I get from the secret, not "prostitutes are 'dirty' people".

Though I don't want to assume OP isn't self-aware about how their views on sex sound. I was like that once. And if it's a knee-jerk thing about characters and not a universal judgement that you uphold even after second thoughts, take it easy OP.

And idk anything about the context in the anime, so there could be something I'm missing too.

are we having a prostitute wank?

for once a wank that has an appropriate name!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
+1

not getting into this thread any more probably but i agree with you

(Anonymous) 2015-12-10 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
i agree tbh. prostitutes are fucking disgusting.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
lol, IBO fandom on suicide watch. First the new female pilots are members of a harem and they all have sex with their boss, and now the boys have sex with prostitutes.

No one is pure in this show, learn your lesson.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I lose respect for dudes who exploit prostitutes.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
What about women? Asking for a friend.

IA. Not sure if that's what the secret is insinuating and no, not all prostitutes are exploited, but without more context I'll be wary, especially if the term "brothel" is being used...

But anon, what if they lost their v-card to each other?

Honestly, I was more surprised they went there. I thought they where going to come back and say they weren't lucky or something. And then Norba saying "I got laid lolol" really shocked me. Same with Eugene, but it took me longer to realize what he meant with "being an adult". Anyway, I think you should ponder a bit on why you feel that way OP, because like you said, you sound like those otaku who get angry when their favorite girl.

Also Yamagi looked more pissed than heartbroken to me.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'd view any characters who use prostitutes as lesser and disgusting and I'd feel no shame about it. people who willingly pay for sex are pathetic, and exploiting an industry where the people they're having sex with are more than likely not entirely willing participants. but that's fine because sex > the lives of real people!!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Hi radfem anon

not necessarily. I don't think this is a very uncommon view though I do think it misses a lot of nuance. maybe naive might be the right word?

hey asshole I'm trans so I'm not, nor would I ever be a radfem. also, want to point out where I used gendered terms that made this about men and women and not exploiter and victim? jw :) both men and women who exploit prostitutes of either gender are disgusting, just so you know. this isn't in any way an extreme or "radical" position.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
If I could be sure it was done freely and without exploitation I would have no problem with people paying for sex.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-12 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
okay, that's not the reality we live in
