Gimme yo fave villains!

The ones you love to hate or hate to love or just find super fascinating.

Right now my #1 all time fave is the (trying not to spoilers?) main antagonist of Flash season one. Just a+ writing and acting that combined to form someone I kind of loved even when I hated him and who made me constantly go "NO! Bad! But I kind of understand you... And you have redeeming points... And yet here you go doing something loathsome again...." I enjoyed that whole first season wondrous well.

I can hear the groaning already, but Sephiroth is my favorite villain (original game only). Probably because I first played when I was a kid and very impressionable, but he always stuck out to me as one of the most menacing villains of all time, partly because of how the story utilizes his character and partly because of the presentation.

Sephiroth was a great villain! He certainly commanded attention, and left a hell of an impression. To this day I haven't gotten chills from any villain more than I did when Sephiroth slowly turned and walked into the flames of Nibelheim.

Was coming here to say exactly this! A big part of my love for him is because of how well they laid out his scenes.

First you have the trail of blood in Shinra HQ leading you through the labs and corporate offices to the corpse of the guy you probably assumed would be the big bad of the entire game. but NOPE, surprise, it won't be prez shinra!

Then there's the Kalm flashback. Just, everything about it. How gosh-darned nice he seems (joking with you, letting you visit your mom, etc. I wouldn't given my left arm for a Crisis Core where you spent more time hangin' with Seph) With the epic heartbeat leading up to his character theme when shit really hits the fan.

Then the zolom, and all the other weird little glimpses you get along the way. How he teleports through walls and floors and shit and leaves behind gross alien bodyparts. And throughout it all you feel both horrified by his actions and horrified by what was done to him that led him to this point.

Hype aversion makes a lot of people disregard all of the characters of FF7, ime, but really the entire fucking cast remains one of the most nuanced and interesting of any rpg.

Sauron would the the top right now. Melkor is pretty interesting too. Palpatine and Darth Vader and Thrawn and Ysanna Isard. Dukat and the TOS Klingons (and the way they are not villains in DS9 which I love). Thanos and Ronan and Hydra in general. The Master/Mistress and the Daleks.

I love a lot of villains really.

Wells was great, I don't think I would have been as drawn into The Flash if he wasn't the villain. But honestly i thought all his "redeeming points" just made him all the more insidious. He's going to help you out and play the good guy and make you like him and tell you how much he's come to care about you. All while knowing what he did and playing you.

Other faves
Azula, I just legit love her. She's such a tragedy. I could probably write essays on why I love her.
Lots of Batman villains, but not the Joker. I hate the Joker with a passion.
Lust from the first FMA
Ursula she's fun (okay I love a lot of the camp Disney villains)
Sinestro
The Madoka devil cat in that I love how much I hate him so much and just never wanted to strangle something more.

Agreed on the S1 Flash villain. Creepy as hell and had a perfect actor for the part.

This is sort of oblique, in that it's not a love-to-hate thing or a hate-to-love thing but an out right hate hate hate. All this talk about Kilgrave got me thinking about Handsome Jack. And my experience with Borderlands fandom has been one big "EUUUGH" when it comes to Jack.

The guy's a mass murdering narcissistic psychopath ffs. I don't get why some people have the hots for him. It's not like he's even funny or charming. He's just a fratboy douchebag.

I'm surprised to be the first person to say Boyd Crowder, but SO MUCH BOYD CROWDER. Never have I seen a villain like him. Silver tongue indeed. (No other character in media immediately sticks out as having such a wonderful list of dialogue. That and the actor is captivating and charismatic in a way few others are.)

Also: Revolver Ocelot (It is really fucking difficult to even keep up with Ocelot's allegiances and that's one of the things I love about him. That and again with the charisma), Darth Vader (an 'original', but hey), Darth Revan (just play KOTOR, I can't explain anything without getting spoilery), Hannibal (NBC version; I never thought I'd like Hannibal Lecter as a character, but it happened. I blame it on both the writing and the fact that Mads is an incredible actor who brings a lot of nuance to the role), Callisto (from Xena. One of my earlier favorites; she's crazy in the best way possible), and GLaDOS (Some of the funniest writing in a video game, and absolutely delightful to be around, which is funny seeing as she's an evil robot).

AND HOW THEY MADE IT OBVIOUS THAT EVEN WITH HIS VILLAINY, HE STILL CARED ABOUT BARRY AND WENT BEHIND HIS BACK TO DO MURDEROUS VILLAIN THINGS ~SPECIFICALLY TO PROTECT BARRY~

AND IT WAS SO PERSONAL AND SEASON 2 IS BOUNCING OFF THAT SO WELLLLL AND THAT SCENE WITH CISCO IN THE MIDDLE OF S1 AND JESUS IT'S ALL JUST SO GOOD

I like Sarevok because he's big, vicious, intimidating, but eventually redeemable.

I don't like Irenicus because he seems too inhuman and I could not bring myself to consider a redemption mod for him.

Like Loghain for being human, but I would never let him live.

I like the version of Melkor Valandhir has, because he's evil, but the sort of evil who can act nice and draw people to his side, convincing them his way is better.
