For whatever reason, male-bodied characters with female genitals have never been anywhere near as popular as female-bodied characters with male genitals. I guess a lot of folks think one hole's as good as another. (Then again, futa never really caught on in live-action fandoms, either.)

You do realize pretty much everything you've said here is just your opinion and that it doesn't bear out when we look at the fandom as a whole?

There is a reason why characters are re-imagined as FtM way more often than MtF. If it were really "penises are objectively nicer looking" (as someone who likes both...no, it is literally entirely dependent from genital to genital), we would be seeing a hell of a lot more MtF stuff since a lot of the FtM stuff I've seen is thinly veiled wank fodder, sometimes not even 'thinly veiled', the (usually cis female) author will admit to it.

It's because fandom is largely male driven, and it's mostly cis dudes who view "chicks with dicks" as a way to explore their "touching the peen" urges without it being "100% gay, maybe only 50%". Keep in mind that this is not how I feel about it, this is stuff my actual trans female friends say. They've run into guys who talk about how they got into "futa" and shit like that, and now they're apparently ready to "try the real thing" (and all the trans woman run awaaaaayyyyyyy).

Check how common the FtM tag is in female dominated fandom spaces versus how common the MtF tag is used. It's very easy to see where FtM guys become a sort of "other (Male)" fantasy in a lot of cis female authors/fanartists minds, while generally it's MtF for the males in fandom.

Heh...no, not that anon! I am actually FtM myself, so yeah there is probably a lot of wish fulfillment in there, mostly because while I enjoy seeing how popular trans male rehashings of characters have become, sometimes I really, really just wanna read a fic where that's normal and not a "thing" with tons of social, romantic and sexual minefields to get through, where it needs to be set up that this is something ~different~ for a cis male character to be attracted to. I find it less jarring when it's like, a best friend pairing or something and they know their friend is trans for awhile beforehand so I feel reasonably sure that they would have an idea of what is going on with their partner's body and they're still attracted so it's less of that terrifying "I'm a dude but I'm not like other dudes and people get rejected for this all the time!" stuff going on in the fic. A lot of being attracted to trans men in RL comes with baggage, whether you're the person attracted to them or the trans guy. :/

So...yeah, I've read a few fics where "cunt boys" I guess are just treated as normal, and that's awesome.

What fandoms are you in OP?
Cause all the fandoms I used to be in where this trope became popular suddenly had boypussy everywhere (suddenly also in other fics... hurt/comfort menstruation fics where *the thing* in one of them) and I hated it. Not my kink at all not not something small enough that I could just ignore it. I would have loved to see more self lubricating assholes actually (... okay, never thought I'd write that).

Lmfao thank you, there was one fic I read where they were describing it (the lubrication) as like "running down the backs of his thighs" and there was "a smell" to it and I sat there like "they're literally describing a bad case of the runs", and I couldn't believe that it wasn't obvious to others.

I have nothing against the self-lubing assholes, and I've seen some people do this trope alright, but in general the whole idea of it just kind of grosses me out. There's a reason why our assholes don't self-lubricate. :/

I kinda think it's not as popular for the same reason that het isn't as popular in fandom as slash, at least for me. I'm female and i just...have no interest in reading about sex with female parts. No, i don't think vaginas are 'gross' or 'icky' - i have one, and it's pretty sweet - but i just don't care about reading about vaginal sex. Been there, done that (m/f *and* f/f) and...it's not titillating.

I don't mind m/f/m threesome stuff with characters i love (Steve/Peggy/Bucky, ftw!!), but it's not my go-to.

The idea of a female alpha in a/b/o fics having a penis reminds me too much of Freud to enjoy it. But then I've only ever seen it once in a fic and it was only a throwaway mention in a m/m a/b/o fic (no boypussy though), so I can see why you would be frustrated, OP. A/b/o is really mostly just about self-lubricating buttholes and mpreg. :/
