OMFG YES.

The anti-Reylo shippers are the fucking worse. Anti-shippers in general are the shittiest type of people in fandom, but I've never actually been so exposed to them as I am with this fandom. I can't believe how on board some of the people I've followed for so long are with anti-shipping Reylo. In their haste to tar and feather the Reylo shippers as racists and proponents of male on female abuse (lol, way to misinterpret the dynamic of Kylo Ren and Rey completely), they've made the fandom a fucking miserable place.

I was kind of excited to be in this fandom since Star Wars was my first fannish experience but I never got in to prequel fandom. Now I'm like fuck it, I don't want to deal with the bullshit. And, even though I'm not a huge Rylo shipper, I feel like shipping it hardcore just out of spite.

What dynamic are the shippers seeing? (The only thing i'm okay with is that potential best friend cousin thing)

I don't like it, and have no problem reblogging that I don't, but I don't go to the tag and bother people.

I mean, I don't know about all the shippers since I'm not in the TFA fandom or the Reylo fandom, but I'm assuming they're seeing every villain/hero who opposes him dynamic ever? I mean, in the movie, Kylo Ren is a bit obsessed with her and he wants to teach her. Rey opposes him and she beats him at his own game. Their fates seem entertwined and so it's easy to write the usual villain/hero tropes like: enemies to allies/friends to lovers, redemption arcs, woobie villain saved by love interest, Kylo in leather pants, hate sex, etc. Plus, you've got the appeal of femdom and potential incest (if you are into that).

Except that he tortured her with forceful mind-reading that's literally described by the script and novelization as being excruciatingly painful and invasive (see also: Poe, who had the exact same thing done to him).

That's the abuse the antishippers are talking about. That time he explicitly DID abuse her.

I'm all for villain redemption and villain/hero hatesex shipping and all that, but I'm not so on board when literal actual torture happens.

Yeah exactly, it's nothing new. I think because people on tumblr are ultra sensitive to anything they perceive as WRONG, they kinda act like attack dogs and go after it where as before people would just call you a freak, say you're wrong about the dynamic, etc. XD

HA, me too! I'm 100% on the Poe/Kylo Ren ship but the amount of ridiculous hate I've seen for Reylo makes me want to draw/write so much shit for that ship.

The fandom includes twerking storm troopers, Willrow Hood parades, Bratz doll hacks, and David Bowie cross-over art. You don't have to deal with shippers.

Yeah, antishippers suck. I tend to be very territorial about my ships, to the point that I antiship "rival" pairings but you've got to be an ass or at least immature to bother putting it out there. Like, why expend that energy when you could be, I don't know, writing femslash for your Star Wars f/f pairing or would-be lesbian Star Wars character?

There is a group of vindictive assholes who migrate between fandoms depending on what's popular at the time. They shit up the place with their fuck-awful headcanons, harassing people over their preferred ships/characters, and overall make the fandom a miserable place to be until they get bored and move on to something else.

I give it a couple months tops for them to change out of their SW-themed Tumblr URLs/icons and move on to fuck up someplace else.

You should join in the OT SW renaissance fandom, it's pretty welcoming and cozy. There's never any ship hate (unless you like Luke/Leia) or character bashing.

In a way, I'm not surprised that there would be wank considering it's a huge, popular fandom. Anti-shippers always suck, but I'm at the point where I sort of don't care since I end up shipping controversial ships for some reason.
