Artists of F!S
What is your favorite program for doing digital art? Do you know any favorite resources for art palettes and stuff (my fave is StarshipSorceress on dA for palettes and tutorials)?
And for those of you who do listen to music when you do art, or digitally color, what's your fave music? I like listening to an 00's pop station on Pandora.
Re: Artists of F!S
I did have some tutorials archived on my xkit on tumblr but that blew up on me one day so I had to re-download it and I lost everything I had saved. That was a bummer.
I either open itunes and hit a random song and let the shuffle option take over, or I go to youtube and search for a song I want to listen to and click the auto-play option so it cycles through songs that are by the same artist or are a similar genre.
Re: Artists of F!S
Ahh that's the worst. My xkit hasn't been working very well lately.
That sounds like a good strategy.
Re: Artists of F!S
Yeah it sucked-balls, I'm trying to find some of them again, especially some nose-painting tutorials because those are my enemy to paint.
I find the less I'm focusing on what song I want the more I focus on the drawing, also I tend to default to music with a fast beat because I actually do work faster along with it(found this out at uni while writing my final essay).

(Anonymous) 2016-01-16 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)Music-wise, I find that the kind of music I listen to helps certain kinds of pictures. More mellow music helps with more solemn pieces, while happy music helps me get things done faster and inspires me to use brighter colors. I listen to game soundtracks, remixes of game music, classic rock, and a lot of anime theme music.

Re: Artists of F!S
I usually listen to/watch whatever I'm interested in at the time, since it doesn't distract me from working.

I love SAI, especially for line art. It's very intuitive, and very helpful when you only use a mouse. It's lightweight too, so there's that. I also use GIMP, but mostly for photos, typography, basically anything but drawing. For pixel art, I used to use Graphics Gale, but I switched to Aseprite.
I listen to instrumental music, either classical (I've got 30 hours worth, most of it Chopin, heh) or videogame soundtracks, mostly because I get distracted when there's lyrics in songs and I try to sing along <_<

(Anonymous) 2016-01-17 12:36 am (UTC)(link)In the past I've used Gimp and Krita and liked them.
I don't really download anything to work with.
Re: Artists of F!S
What is Krita?
Re: Artists of F!S
Currently, I'm using Corel Painter, which works pretty well.
I also use GIMP, but not nearly as much as the other two.
When I draw, I like listening to ASMR videos, or similar videos. It relaxes me so I can focus on what I'm doing better.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-17 02:37 am (UTC)(link)I don't personally use premade palettes. Sometimes I'll dig up a classic painting and pick from that.
By far and away the best tutorials I've ever found are these two (plus some of the others from this same artist):
http://navate.deviantart.com/art/SKIN-a-tutorial-Part-2-145159387
http://navate.deviantart.com/art/A-quick-lesson-on-FACES-169329106
And for music, I have a lot of private youtube playlists of various kinds, plus lots and lots on my iPod. I mostly listen to non-vocal pieces like soundtracks or different electronica genres, so as to not divide my attention between lyrics and painting.
Re: Artists of F!S
I'll check those out, thanks!

(Anonymous) 2016-01-17 04:37 am (UTC)(link)As for tutorials I just find whatever I can on DA or on google image. I really need help with somethings so these tutorials are the bomb.
I listen to my own playlist of music on itunes. I'm pretty picky about what I listen to, but tend to like things that remind me of the characters I am drawing, or the mood I am trying to create. It's probably pretty corny, but it helps get me in the mood. I also like new age type of music for general coloring etc.
Re: Artists of F!S
I love tutorials they helped me understand how to do a lot of neat things. Like special effects and the like.
