2. So just join [livejournal.com profile] locketpair?
23. She is worthy of fangirling, so we won't judge you :)
45. Elitist? Really? My impression of it is of one of the friendliest fandoms I've been in...
56. "At least Robert Langdon doesn't sparkle" XDDDD That is a very good point. And I like Twilight (though I do at least admit that it is shit).

You wouldn't believe the amount of posts I've seen deleted because they didn't have sex in there somewhere.

Posts are only supposed to get deleted if they aren't slashy in some way, and considering that the community is about slash, I think that's fair enough.

Drama queen much?

Re: 45

[identity profile] sideshow-meg.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Friendliest fandom I have ever been in.

And re: things being deleted, that only happens when they're not relevant. There's loads of stuff that's pre-slash and without sex, things only get deleted when they aren't relevant to the 'slash' boundaries.

There are squee posts for fandom chatter.

Really?! Blimey, I must have been deleting in my sleep.

Re: 45

(Anonymous) 2008-03-02 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Elitest to follow its own rules of OT, relevant posts only? Who would want a comm full of random photos of street names and 'omigawd richies is mai wun truluv- wen hes not sexxin jams that is LOL'?

(If you'd said elitest because of the way it's become cliquey lately, I would have agreed with you- look at who reviews whose fic. Newbies and oldbies are keeping to their own, and its a right shame.)

Re: 45

[identity profile] anazri.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
The cliqueyness is annoying. As an old-oldbie (or something) I can remember the fandom being tiny - I guess with a larger one people necessarily move into groups, but it's still a shame.

I know part of the problem with the fic-reviewing is that a lot of people have got very fed up with the alarming amount of unbetaed badfic that seems to be appearing at the moment, and therefore are only reading/reviewing things by people they know. Some people have got a bit over-cautious and OTT about it, though. And the same goes the other way, unfortunately, because people - being people - will whinge. *ponders scary amounts of Team-Building Group Activities*

Re: 45

[identity profile] kiwi-from-hell.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I say this as a newbie who watches a lot more than participates, I don't think there's a large amount of cliqueness. There's obviously some, because you always get that with communities that have built up slowly, but it's not something that makes you feel left out or anything, more like there's something there to get in to. I really like it.

As for the fic reviewing, uh, I must say the quality of what's posted isn't as high as it always was. Not a problem, because everyone is able to participate blah blah, but I think it's reasonable that people only review good stuff.

Friendliest fandom I've ever been in; it's a lovely comm.

Re: 45

[identity profile] cenea.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, I think interest groups can be mistaken for cliqueyness. For example, J/J slashers, aren't necessarily going to click on and review a Richard/James fic, yet a different group of people will. Plus, as a writer of AU crack, I appreciate this is *far* from everyone's cup of tea. Another thing, when I first got here, I tried to R and R just about everything new coming in. It became impossible - I'm not used to a large fandom like this, and you just can't keep it up, and I hope people I miss don't necessarily think I think they're bad/nasty/evil/rubbish etc.

Not sure if anyone is interested in my ramblings, or whether I'm just stating 'department of the bleeding obvious' stuff...but, I guess what I'm saying is, this fandom seems pretty nice to me. *spreads love...she hopes*

Re: 45

[identity profile] anazri.livejournal.com 2008-03-03 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
You have a pretty good point there :) I also used to R and R everything, and then I stopped (partly because I'm rubbish, but also partly because there is an awful lot of Stuff).

I still think TGS is about the nicest fandom I've ever been in *g* But maybe I'm biased...

Re: 45

I will (almost always) review everything I read, good or bad. Usually I can find something to say, even if I didn't think the fic was all that great overall.

But if it clearly needs a beta, and/or the spelling is appalling or the story doesn't grip me, I won't finish reading and i won't review.

My time's a bit limited atm, which is why (like a lot of ppl) I'm cutting back from reading fics by people I don't know.

Re: 45

[personal profile] redseeker 2008-03-02 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hoo. I totally didn't know a whole thread had built up based on my comment o.O

But with the cliqueyness... Well, I'm a relative newbie in that I contribute little and lurk a lot (and skim past most posts rated over PG anyway :/), so maybe I'm just not noticing it. Some people contribute more than others, so it's natural that they're the more prominent members of the group.

Re: 45

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know about the cliqueyness; I tend to read stuff that appeals to my tastes (Jeremy/Richard, OT3, man/car, anyone/Stig, and far more crack and humor than angst), and am more likely to review stuff I like than stuff I didn't. I'm also more likely to offer negative reviews for people when I know they're likely to take them well than when I have no idea, because I'm afraid of looking mean. That could look more cliquey than I meant it as. It's hard to avoid that sort of thing when a community expands, though. People go out of their way to check for stuff from writers they like and people they know and want to encourage, and are less energetic about trying stuff of unknown quality from people they don't know, especially when it's not to their taste.

Re: 45

[identity profile] cryforthemoon.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Those posts have most likely been deleted because they did not fall under the terms of 'Top Gear Slash'. There are other TG communities for things such as non-slashy squee and/or news. As others have said, this is a very friendly fandom and certainly not elitist.

Also, among the reasons for the 'guarding', ie f'locking the community, is that a non-slash TG community was linked to from a BBC page for Top Gear - imagine what might happen if we left the TGS entries unlocked and someone from the Beeb happened to come across it.

Finally, if there was just ONE comm, not only would this be unsuitable for non-slasher TG fans (a mystical beast, true, but they do exist), but the mod team would have a hell of a job to keep up with the flow of posts.

[identity profile] anazri.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
the mod team would have a hell of a job to keep up with the flow of posts. Hush! They'll start to think we're not superhuman! XD

Re: 45

[identity profile] serriadh.livejournal.com 2008-03-03 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
But there wouldn't be mods, would there. Because mods are obv elitist, because they belong to a special group set out from the rest.

Re: 45

[identity profile] averysmallthing.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
We should totally have one TG community, for all the male petrolheads and slashy fangirls to congregate as one, because that would work out brilliantly.

Re: 45

[personal profile] redseeker 2008-03-02 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not D:

But hey. It could be worth a try ^^ (because sometimes the slashy fangirls are the petrolheads, and as such would sometimes like to talk about the cars instead of the slash)

Re: 45

[identity profile] averysmallthing.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm totally being sarcastic. Because while the slashy fangirls can be petrolheads and want to talk about the cars, the male pertolheads are more than likely not going to take kindly to the slash. Hence, one community for all not with the working so well. ;D

Re: 45

[personal profile] redseeker 2008-03-02 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, I realised that after I replied. I must be especially slow today.

Is there a more general community, though? If there is, I haven't found it ;_;

Re: 45

[identity profile] averysmallthing.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen a few that are less fic oriented and more for news. [livejournal.com profile] hot_gear is good.

I don't think this fandom would be hurt at all by a little expansion. Maybe someone will take this as an opportunity to create a more general community on LJ.
