Re: Controversial Opinions / Confessions

I am a logical rational human being and I totally get that fiction =/= reality and that sexualizing fictional children does not mean you are attracted to real children and that there are in fact plenty of reasons to write sexual situations involving children that AREN'T masturbation, but even logically knowing all of this my reaction to underage smut fic is to go 'EW WHAT THE FUCK' and wish really hard that it didn't exist. I do not tend to voice this opinion because I don't believe in censorship and am not an asshole but I still just go ewwwww get away in my head.

DA

Separate but related confession. I tend to assume the author and readers are imagining themselves as the child in the scenario.

My double standard is that I'm fine with it if I think the author is imagining themselves as the child. But even though I believe that fantasy does not equal reality and that dominant fantasies are just as fine as submissive ones, I'm still uncomfortable if I believe the author is imagining themselves as the adult.

OP

Yup, absolutely agree. And then I feel like an asshole because kinkshaming is bad and fiction is not reality but I cannot remember that when I'm busy kinkshaming and being really grossed out.

Same.

Actually, I kind of do think censorship's permissible in that case. Mostly because I think something has to be majorly wrong with you to write that kind of thing.

OP

I don't believe in any sort of censorship because I believe that while fiction can be used for evil, it is not by nature of existing hurting anyone and slippery slopes and yadayadayada. But also because literally every person I've seen admit to liking it was themselves a victim of child sexual abuse and used it to work through their feelings about the abuse and their struggles with their sexual identity. No seriously, every single one, though I'm sure there are others who are different and just like dark fic.

Yes, I agree. But then, in my country this kind of thing is technically illegal. Admittedly, visual pedophilic art is probably a lot more likely to get called to the mat than written pedophilic art. And unless someone is actually distributing said art, I suspect they're pretty unlikely to have the law come down on them for it. Which is fine, IMO; priorities are important, and having a sense of scale is important, etc. etc.

But yeah, technically, the law (in Canada - as well as, I believe, Australia?) prohibits the drawn/written depiction of pedophilic acts.
