Eh, she left her as a kid and never tried coming back, I get it. She's been clean for how many years? Yet, she waited.

It's a natural reaction. If she didn't reconsider a few days later, sure, but she did, so, yeah, a reasonable response.

Re: Spoilers

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
She was pissed that Francine had another kid.

Yeah, pissed that she had another kid after leaving her husband and daughter, and never came back or told them, and when she did come back, continued to keep him from them until Iris found out.

Iris's anger at Francine isn't based in jealously; it's based in betrayal and hurt and anger, and she has every right to be mad.

I thought it was more than a few days. And it seemed like she felt guilty about how Joe didn't know about Wally, not about how she had treated her mother.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
If your parent abandons you they have no right to walk back into your life and expect you to welcome them with open arms.

And have you seen the recent episodes?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I don't watch the Flash, but you need to know that not all parents are great and they don't deserve to be forgive just because they gave birth to you and are now dying.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I want to slap Wally. What a whiny little prick. Iris has been right the whole time this stupid subplot has dragged on and I wish that she'd ignored both her mother and her stupid-ass brother.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
What exactly has he been whining about? He didn't ask for any family to come shoving into his life, and he DID have to be forced into an adult role before he was ready (supporting his mom's hospital bills). If he's "whiny", it's Francine's fault, not his.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Besides whining how his dad hasn't been in his life or ditching the family dinners? His dad didn't even know about Wally until now, it was Wally who showed up on their doorstep.

da

God forbid a kid who has a bomb like that dropped on him feels conflicted over it.

I don't care that Francine was dying. She put Iris at risk as a child (as an addict in general and Joe mentioned that the last straw involved the stone being left on while Iris was home alone with an unconscious mother), deprived her two children of a parent, didn't let Joe know he had a son, and expected forgiveness from all of them because she finally felt too guilty to keep it from them. It was 100% selfish of her and Iris treated her better than she deserved.

sa

*stove, not stone

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Why do people deserve forgiveness when they do shitty things to you just because they're dying? I'm glad that Iris reconciled with her mother later because she probably would have felt guilty for the rest of her life if she didn't and I don't think her mother was necessarily a bad person, but she still wasn't entitled to shit from Iris

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
We forgive people not because they deserve it, but because they need it.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Francine didn't really seem to care what her husband, daughter, or son ever needed, so I can't be bothered to care about her needs. I agree that I'm glad for Iris's sake that she forgave her, but she didn't owe Francine anything.

Also, because we need it.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
That's bullshit. People aren't entitled to forgiveness just because they have a selfish need to ease their guilty conscience. If someone believes that giving forgiveness to a person who has deeply wronged them is the right course of action then they should do it, but they shouldn't feel pressured into it.

I thought Iris said she didn't forgive Francine and wanted her out of her life before she found out that Francine was dying.

Not that I think she would forgive Francine just because she dying, but yanno.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
She found out about Wally after, and chewed Francine out.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I think Iris' response was 100% reasonable.

*I'm not caught up beyond the mid-season finale so I can't speak for anything she does after that, lol.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Let me guess... you're the type who encourages abused and molested adult children to reconcile with the family member who made their childhoods a living hell because FAAAAAMILY, right?

Yeah, what she said wasn't nice. But in that kind of situation where it's personal, I'm gonna give her a free pass.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Right, because francine is just like a child molestor.

People who were in abusive situations don't owe anything to their abusers, even when they're dying.
