I see you've read Mark Reads there.

No; what's the skinny on him?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Skinny? Nothing, he is fat. He is also one of those people that believe they have the one true perspective on all morality in fiction. He promotes the ideas that all fans and authors are wrong, but he is always right and will verbally attack and dox anyone that contradicts him. He goes to quite absurd lengths to justify his reasoning at times too, and insists that all authors must be viewed through a strict American West Coast sense of history and culture.

*gnashes teeth* I hate that.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Remember LGBT and Racial groups in other countries must have the exact same history, sense of identity, and terminology as America. If they don't adhere to that then they are being LGBT wrong or betraying their racial identities. He's claimed that.

Fucking American Imperialism.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
According to him that doesn't exist. It is just rebalancing culture so that European Imperialism is rolled back to a more universal stance.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
today?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
... no? But clearly you have personal beef with him, so anything he does must seem ~~~omg evil~~~.

lol so funny fat people. Apparently.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Fat gay people with hipster beards are funny.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
you the same guy that called him a poof on the other page?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Is the West Coast really all that different from the rest of country?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's much more, uh, "Tumblr" than say, the Midwest or South. But when people like AYRT talk about "Applying an American perspective," West Coast type is the kind of "American" they're usually talking about, and they usually mean they were called out for some kind of bigotry that they want to pretend is only an American problem so it's okay when they do it.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Or they are a minority themselves and fed up with Americans telling them how they ought to feel. Oh, sorry, that never happens.

The expression "what's the skinny?" is a slang term that means "what's the story?" and has nothing to do with body type.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I assumed ayrt was making a mean joke.

I usually comment on r/outoftheloop

Mark reads is a guy who reads popular works for the first time and then reacts to them. He started by reading Harry Potter without previous knowledge and now reads and watches other stuff like the diskworld series and Avatar the last Airbender. People dislike him because he is a SJW. If he interprets something as problematic and someone in the comments of his blog disagrees they will be banned. And also since he usually reviews older geeky shows the fandoms of those shows get a sudden influx of fans that are all extremely SJ orientated. This also pisses people of.

Thanks.

Plus he is a comedic reviewer and his schtick is to be camply over-the-top about Social Justice matters. A lot of people don't understand that is just his persona and gimmick to get the donations rolling in. Guy has to make his living somehow.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you think that?

Re: I usually comment on r/outoftheloop

(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Met him at a con once, when he isn't "on" he is a lot less OTT about everything. The extreme calling out, and OMG OMG OMG stuff, is just something he keeps for his reviews and panel performances. I'm not going to claim he isn't a bit camp and concerned about SJ issues, but not anywhere near the extent he is when he is doing his schtick. It is his job, his viewers pay him for it, of course he is going to give them what they want.

He could get a real job.

Re: I usually comment on r/outoftheloop

(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Probably not tbh, any employer that googled his name would probably be leary of hiring him. Maybe not on the surface, but going deeper into Mark's work? Yeah, I'd not want to hire him. I wouldn't want to end up as another one of his stories that totally happened and totally connects to whatever he's reading/watching.

He's a college drop out, the only job he could get would involve the phrase "do you want fries with that?" which would not salve his massive ego.
