Re: Weird and/or unpopular reasons you won't read/watch certain things

I won't watch something if everyone tells me that I should by bashing something else.

For example, I still haven't watched Fury Road, because I'm one of those weirdos who actually enjoyed Jurassic World, and when Fury Road first came out, all I saw were people talking about it terms of how much Jurassic World was literally the new Hitler of movies.

(And, I s2g, if anyone tries to tell me that I ~need~ to watch Fury Road because omg you don't understand it's so much better! you will literally be proving my point, and I will definitely not become magically interested in watching it.)

I hate that. Don't push something up by pushing something else down. I hate bashing. Let the thing you like stand on its own merits.

I do plan on seeing Fury Road eventually. But I really loved Jurassic World. Saw it 6 times in the theater and got the dvd for Christmas. It was a fun movie and pretty well done.

It's especially frustrating when people act like "no, you just don't understand why you're wrong!" and it's like

"no, I understand. I understand that we have different tastes in movies and you're kind of an ass, who's opinions I don't take seriously."

I think things would go a lot better in general if more people realized that movie quality is a lot more subjective than is generally assumed.

I get this way about the Star Wars prequels. The hate is just so pervasive and talked about as if it was fact that they were bad movies. And I just get really defensive because I like them and its subjective and why do people not understand that different tastes are different?

Because, don't you get it, your tastes are Wrong (TM) and you need to join the hive mind. :/

I have the same reason for not watching Fury Road, but with Pacific Rim and now TFO as the bashed movies.

Uh that is, TFA, not TFO. The new Star Wars movie. That one.

I got you.

High-five fellow nonny.

Should be

I saw were people talking about it in terms of how good it was, compared to Jurassic World, which was literally the new Hitler of movies.

I watched Jurassic World yesterday. I liked it. But I also thought it was unintentionally funny in places. Beautifully rendered world, too.

I can understand that. There were parts I thought were funny that were probably not intended, but I still liked the movie, you know?

Yeah I'm not a fan of this either.

If someone wants me to watch a thing they like then they need to tell me about it, not just point out that it's better than x because that isn't very helpful tbh. Also I find that if you have to prop up the thing you like by tearing something else down, you aren't all that confident in your preferred thing.

I personally loved Jurassic World, it was fun and silly and did what I wanted it to. Do I have some niggles with it? Yeah, but that happens with most movies I watch even when I love them.

Thankfully I didn't see too much tearing down of JW to prop up Fury Road until after I'd seen both movies otherwise I might have been put off Fury Road myself, but instead I got to see and enjoy both movies.

Exactly!

I enjoyed both to be honest, but out of all the movies to pick to compare them to, it'd probably make more sense to compare one that tried to be subversive. JW didn't.

Why would you even compare those two films in the first place though? They have nothing in common aside from being action movies - but even then, they don't belong to the same sub-genre of action movie.

It's a strange comparison.

Both popular and released in the same year?
