What's the strangest thing someone has accused you of lying about?

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-02-18 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
My SO and I once had a giant argument about whether or not I had seen her do a line dance to Cotton Eye Joe when we were in middle school.

I fucking swear I have. She swears it has never happened.

There is no way to verify who is hallucinating wildly and who is correct.

I fucking swear I have. She swears it has never happened.

I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't own up to having done that.

Someone I worked with once told everyone that they should be nicer to me, because it wasn't my fault I was so weird since I was homeschooled. No one could convince her I was not homeschooled so they came to ask me, and when I said 'No, I've never been homeschooled' she insisted that I'd told her I was. The funniest part was that we'd all been discussing schools a few weeks before, and I actually went to middle school with another one of our coworkers!

A teacher once accused me about lying on a band practice sheet. I had practiced, written the time, then practiced more later and erased and added the time. She held the sheet up to a light and could see the original time. She then accused me of cheating and gave me a zero on it and hauled me into the guidance councilor's office.

Needless to say she was not a good teacher. This was in middle school. She played favorites and really didn't like me (mostly because of something my parents did).

I've been the accuser!

I accused a harmless secret about "taking the hobbits to Isengard" of being a troll.

When I was in college, I was on the house council of my dorm and got in a dispute with someone who seemed to think we could just take the rules and punishments in our hands regarding people who smoke near the building rather than going through the official channels. I was like "No, if you see someone doing it, you can alert the people in charge of enforcing those rules or you can alert house council, and if they're still there when a councilmember checks, they can alert higher ups. But I can't just take your word for it that somebody was smoking near the door and should be kicked out."

This dorm was a mix of traditional and nontrad students, so I was 21, but she was in her 40s and she got way up in my face and rude about it, to the point that I was really upset and a little teary afterward (and when THAT came to light, one of her other 40-something friends kept interrupting and harassing me during a meeting all "OH! Are you going to cry?! Are you the town cryer?!!" but that's neither here nor there).

An (older) guy in the dorm found out that she'd "made me cry" and posted a note on her door saying she was a bitch and should just leave if she didn't like it here. Apparently we have similar handwriting, and she insisted it was me, called me a liar when I said it wasn't, filed a grievance with the council of dorm presidents and because I also worked for the student paper at the time demanded that the paper write about what an awful person I was for doing such a thing and then lying about it, called for my resignation from the paper and the house council and then in general was just awful for the rest of the semester.

Fortunately, literally everyone else from the rest of the dorm, presidents' council and newspaper had my back, which made it not suck so much. But I remember thinking it was really weird how she was all "THIS HANDWRITING IS YOURS YOU LIAR!! LOOK AT THIS MESSAGE YOU SCRIBBLED ON AN OLD PIECE OF NEWSPRINT ONE TIME COMPARED THIS NOTE!! THE H'S ARE THE SAME!"

Which is, of course, the mature adult way of handling things. All 40 year olds throw massive tantrums and upset 21 year olds, didn't you get the memo?

Seriously, it baffles me how some of the most immature behavior I've ever seen comes from grown adults. I'm sorry that happened to you.

Huh. She sounds like a really miserable person. I hope she managed to get her life to a place where she doesn't have to fly off the handle like that at young kids just to feel better about herself.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Geez what a cunt, her and her shitty friend.

What grown adult does that to someone half their age?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I was a very premature baby and my first-grade teacher called me a liar in front of the whole class when I said so. At least that's what my mom says. I don't remember that incident, but I do remember hating that teacher.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
That I hadn't had sex in ten years.

Why would anybody lie about that??

I've been accused of lying about being a virgin. Also about being a (then) vegetarian. Same guy. Glad I only had to work with him once or twice.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
That Hawaii is a state in the USA.

It was a snarky asshole businessman student I had when I taught English in Tokyo. Everyone hated him because he was such a dick and super full of himself, and he said I was lying and wrong. I'm American, for gods sake. It was funny though, I wasn't even mad.

Did he look it up, or did you Google it in front of him? Also where was he from? Was he one of your students?

I have a super-clear memory of me and my sister having a huge argument about whether Lisa's saxophone solo in the Simpsons titles is the same every time or changes.

When I was little I told my dad I was scared of the fire alarm and fire drills at school, to see if he could do something to help me get over it. He didn't believe me because when there'd been a fire in the house across the street in the middle of the night, I slept through all the commotion.

He reasoned that there was no way I could be scared of a fire alarm if I could sleep through fire trucks across the street. And I didn't get it because why would I take the trouble to ask for help getting over a fear I didn't really have? (Looking at it now, he probably thought I did it for attention.)

My eye and/or hair color. A guy in high school swore up and down that I had to be either dyeing my hair or wearing colored contacts because it was impossible for someone to have red hair and not have green eyes.

Well, a few days ago, someone accused me of lying about baking a sweet potato. I laughed about that for a good minute or two.

Being disabled / needing a wheelchair / needing a disabled parking space.

How do I even respond to that?
Yes. I just love the inconvenience of not being able to walk everywhere.
Foolin the shit out of these doctors.
Stealin yo tax dollars.

Not actually stealin yo tax dollars because the pension application process takes fucking forever, and the first office they tried to send me to had no fucking wheelchair access.

:D I am smiling at you because you dumb as shit.

When I was in sixth grade, we had an in-class writing assignment one day (I can't remember the content, just that it was supposed to be fiction), and I used the word "disdain" in it. My teacher called me up to her desk and asked if I'd had my mother write it for me.

The in-class essay.

I just stared at her blankly for a while because I honestly didn't know how to respond to that, and she called me a space cadet and sent me to the principal.

Someone here once said I was untrustworthy for saying I am thin-- just thin, mind you, not even some kind of ridiculous equating thin with healthy because LOLNO. Mentioning this was on-topic for the thread. I'm not sure if they thought I was lying about it (because everyone on the internet is fat?) or perhaps that I was bragging (why would I? it makes zero sense in the context of that thread, which was about exercise/health). Or that they think all thin people are untrustworthy??

Even sillier when I've posted a few photos of myself here in the past, so F!S has seen what I look like.
