Femslash

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-02-21 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in the mood for femslash. Anything smutty would be awesome, especially with a touch of kink. MCU or Doctor Who femslash would be especially awesome, but any fandom would be great.

Re: Femslash

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry i used to have a lot more MCU stuff but, well, here's a few things anyway

Non-smutty:

http://archiveofourown.org/works/89711 - A Romance In Seven Acts - Criminal Minds, Emily Prentiss/Jordan Todd

Smutty:

http://archiveofourown.org/works/376520/ - Catalysis - Warehouse 13, Myka/HG
http://archiveofourown.org/works/2637257 - turning out the lights - Agents of Shield, Bobby/Skye/Jemma
http://archiveofourown.org/works/2272347 - Applied Superluminal Communication - Jemma/Skye
http://archiveofourown.org/works/1311037 - Fast-Acting Physiological Effects - Doctor Who, Tegan/Nyssa (this probably wasn't what you meant by Doctor Who sorry)

I just read a very excellent Tristan/Galahad fic, from that terrible King Arthur movie. I believe they've become sort of a Hannigram AU pairing, but I actually prefer them to Hannibal/Will.

Good fic that is neither PWP nor over 100k.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Come on, I know it must exist.

I'll read fic for pretty much any fandom that isn't a police procedural show, but if anyone has recs for Star Wars, Thor, or Guardians of the Galaxy or anything else similarly science-fiction-y, that would be awesome.

I really loved this Han/Luke fic. It made me ship them with a fervor:

Romance novels

[personal profile] badass_tiger 2016-02-21 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
also the title of one of my recent oneshots

Can I have recs for good romance novels? Those that aren't a cliché storm, with proper developed characters and maybe even a plot. I don't mind how mushy it gets either, as long as it's there for a reason and not just for the feels. Preferably with no porn, but that might not be a realistic request. I really don't want anything that has themes of serious issues though, like racism or homophobia. Interracial or homosexual romances are fine as long as the plot itself isn't heavy on those real-life issues.

http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/ is a good review site for romance, mostly het but they do review m/m and f/f from time to time, as well as non-romance material. Most mainstream romance has sex scenes, but it's not usually all that porny unless it's in the erotic romance subgenre.

Re: Romance novels

(Anonymous) 2016-02-22 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a newer romance reader and I mostly so far have been reading what's available for free. But I did purchase Julie James's FBI/US Attorney series of romances at the recommendation of several friends, and I'm liking them very much so far. The characters feel realistic, the banter is fun instead of irritating, and the heroines are just as invested in their careers as the guys. The author used to be an attorney herself, too, so she actually gets the law right, which is wonderful.

I also recently read In Too Deep, by Tracey Alvarez, and liked it quite a bit. It's a small town romance, but a small town romance set in New Zealand, which was pretty novel (yuk yuk) to me. There is some tragic family history stuff in it that got me all misty, but no issue issues. I think it's still free for Kindle, too, which was awesome.

Hmm...I can kind of rec Zoe York's Love in a Small Town? It's about a divorced couple getting back together again. I remember sometimes being annoyed by the leads and sometimes getting all WAFFy over them. I read the book with the better part of a bottle of wine one night, so I don't know how it will hold up, but I certainly liked it well enough that I'm going to give it a try sober one day. I don't know if it's still free, but it was when I came upon it.

Sorry if none of these looks good to you, but maybe they'll be a place to start!

action/thriller movies

[personal profile] slashgirl 2016-02-21 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Things along the lines of the Bourne movies, Jack Reacher. A female lead would be nice, too, but isn't necessary (I've seen Salt, Hanna, Haywire). Not overly fond of out and out martial arts movies (but movies that incorporate some martial arts are okay) nor am I looking for superhero movies (ie Avengers, etc.). Old or new movies are fine.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
RocknRolla
Drive
True Lies
Speed
all of the Mission Impossibles
all of the Bond movies w/ Daniel Craig

I have an unholy love for Red and Red 2. Partly for Bruce Willis, partly for Helen Mirrin making me question my sexuality every time she's on screen.

White House Down is surprisingly fun! It's a pretty stupid action film but I love the characters and there is a plucky kid who is basically Hermione Granger if she were an American girl obsessed with political science.

I only saw The Fugitive with HArrison Ford once and couldn't do it again because it made me SO TENSE, like it was really amazing at that 'thriller' aspect.

Minority Report is a sometimes-overlooked sci-fi thriller with Stephen Speilberg's 'serious business' fingers all over it. Amazingly paced/acted/shot with a marvelous build-up of tension.

I love I Am Become Death by entangled_now! I haven't read A Little Competition, though, so I'm off to check that one out. Thanks!

Okay, recs. All recs are Sherlock BBC, all recs feature John and Sherlock. Some are Johnlock, some are more gen.

We Are Salmon In the Stream, After Years at Sea by apiphile. Okay, this is THE most upsetting horror fic I've read. Do NOT trust the tags on this one. The author is, IMO, an asshole who originally posted this fic on Valentines day under misleading tags, just to fuck with people, and since then she(?) has never really properly tagged it. The only tags you should trust are the "Character Death" tag and the "Horrible Fungal Alien Shit" tag. Also, this fic involves an extremely dark characterization of one of it's characters, just in case that's not your thing.

http://archiveofourown.org/works/339831

Untitled slenderman kink fill by anon. Sherlock and John try to investigate Slenderman without knowing what they're getting into. This is very short, but very effectively a horror fic. I love it. (Nothing that needs to be warned for actually happens, that we know of, but that doesn't mean the outlook isn't pretty bleak.)

http://sherlockbbc-fic.livejournal.com/3114.html?thread=8423978

SM CASE FILES by lillyankh. Another fic where Sherlock and John try to investigate Slenderman without knowing what they were getting into. (Heed the warnings, for sure.)

http://lillyankh.livejournal.com/12142.html?page=3

Eating at the Table of Another by peevee. A short tentacle porn piece that's...like...one part hot porn, one part noncon, and five parts body horror. The warning tags are pretty minimalist for what you're actually getting into.

http://archiveofourown.org/works/451117

And if you want something a little less full-on horror and a little more classic-horror-elements-meets-adventure-dark-fantasy-and-romance, then Darkling, I Listen by you_light_the_sky is a good bet. John returns from Afghanistan broken, and when Harry disappears into the sinister "dead zone" that used to be London, he faces almost certain death by going in after her. There, he is plunged into a horrifying world of...well, I won't spoil it, but there's a lot of dark shit, plus Sherlock is there. (Sadly, this one isn't quite finished, and it may be abandoned.)
