I know this secret is meant to be topical and all, but ...come on. This is fandom. This is the land of knotting, sex pollen, self-lubricating anuses, and rape is love.

Think about it, OP.

Yeah, but generally those are accepted as unrealistic tropes that people know are unrealistic.

You get a different vibe when the author truly and honestly thinks something's realistic when it's not.

I once read fic by someone who was convinced, convinced, that guys had sex together by one fucking down the other's urethra. Not a sounding fetish, they thought that was how it worked.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-03-12 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
That's my point though. People don't necessarily know how anything works. Half the time I'm convinced that the author of any given smutfic is a virgin who is just doing what they imagine would be hot, even if that thing would be the polar opposite in real life. And so what? They're entitled to that. Trying to wank about fans not writing realistic gay or bi men was a failed endeavour before it began (back in the early 00's), because no one cared in the slightest when it came just wanting "teh smexy bishies".

This is the same thing. OP very likely just happens to be someone's kink, and in doing so falls under the same category as the aforementioned. They're not necessarily going to care about realism when they'd rather have an opportunity for emotionality and doing what they think would be hot in a fic.

And wow I'm dating myself with some of these references here lol.

Ohhh, I think I read that one, too. Or was there more than one? I don't even want to know. I think it was Saiyuki fic?

I sure haven't seen anything like that in recent years.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
HA, yeah, it was a Saiyuki fic. I don't remember anything else about it though.

Not to mention all gay anal sex involves three finger scissoring.

In other words, popular tropes are popular, and not always accurate or representative of real life.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-03-12 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
lol that reminds me I once read a really angry lj post from this gay dude that was like "THREE FINGERS LINED UP ARE BIGGER THAN ANY PENIS IT'S NOT NECESSARY!!"

And then I spent the next way too long wondering how anyone's ass could accommodate fingers in that formation, and why this man's anus was apparently a slot.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh happy days... I remember thinking that there must have been a lot of copy pasting going on and little watching of actual porn for 'inspiration'.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Uhh I've stuck 3 fingers into my bf's butt before. You don't stick them in all in a row. You bunch them together in a triangle shape. It's not physically impossible.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-03-12 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
...Yes, that was my point, thank you for noticing.

Some people just find fingering hot. I know I do. I always write it even though I'm writing characters who are shapeshifters and could probably take just about anything. I don't care. I like fingering. It is hot. Especially when the one being penetrated is fingering themselves.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Fingering is fine. I'm down with fingering. But there was a verbatim pan fandom meme or memo or something that went around several years ago that more or less dictated that pre anal foreplay must be written as One finger. Two fingers. Three fingers. With some verbage about scissoring to open the anus.

Once was okay. After the umpteenth time it was obvious it was trope not based on anything other than some popular MSF's fic.

I can understand it. If someone wants to see someone like them (in this case a trans man) in a sexual fic, and it's always written in a way that would work for him or anyone he's known like him, that's got to be annoying.

It can be frustrating when pretty much all porn aimed at you or people with your specific sexual interests, or involving people like you always has some trope you hate.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-03-12 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I know this feel too since I ship middle aged characters in a fandom that apparently only wants to ship the younger guys, but I'm not going to go write a manifesto because people don't like what I like... y'know?

Sure, it's irritating, but what are you going to do?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
yeah... it's like lesbian porn for men. there's an added discomfort.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
As an ace person I avoid all fandom related to "ace" characters because it all seems to come down to viewing asexually as a kink or something to overcome. It grossed me out too much, and I also found it disturbing / offensive. I just don't even look anymore. Maybe things have improved, but I doubt it, and it's not worth the pain.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
THIS THIS THIIIIIS, can I get a hell yes?
