When people herego "anti sjw doesn't mean anti sj", i'm just going to point back to this secret.

Why did you get so bothered over this.

This so much. Yes, I think there are some people who go too far with it and really are SJWs. But when most people use the term they seem to mean "someone who cares about social justice and who I disagree with."

(Anonymous) 2016-03-14 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
the people you need to watch out for call Themselves sjws. if someone else is calling someone a sjw they are cool.

I'm not even sure what you're complaining about.

Now, I loved Zootopia (it's the best Disney movie since 'Emperor's New Groove', IMHO) and I have a more positive opinion of furries than most (I chalk it up to hanging out with several back in the day), but yeeeeahhh... I'm not going anywhere near the garbage fire that's the 'Zootopia' fandom. Ever. I value my blood pressure, thanks.

Now I know I have to watch this.

I've heard at least a couple reviewers say it's the best since 'Beauty and the Beast'. I'm not so sure about that, tbh, but it's certainly one of the better movies Disney has put out in recent years.

Mind, I haven't seen Big Hero 6 and I loved Wreck-it-Ralph (not as much as I did Zootopia), but if you're looking for a complete opposite of Frozen fever and the musical princess fairytale flicks... Zootopia is all that with a touch of timely social commentary, too.

I'm always surprised at how popular Emperor's New Groove is. I really, really hated it. I liked Zootopia, though.

To be fair, Emperor's New Groove is one of those movies where you either love it or you hate it. There's no real middle ground (especially when you're aware of the backstory behind the making of the film).

For me, it's a movie that's pretty comfy and I still get a few hearty laughs from it to this day. But given it is a comedy, I totally get why it's not everyone's cup of tea.

On humanizations

[personal profile] feotakahari 2016-03-14 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
At different points in the movie, Judy, Nick, and Bellwether all experience something that could be seen as equivalent to racism against black people, each in a way that wouldn't make sense for the other two. Nick would probably make the most sense as a "black" character given his backstory, but the Godfather parody is the only character who directly fits to a specific real-life ethnicity. I think that's intentional--without specific parallels, it's easier to see the big picture and talk about overall tendencies in bigotry.

With that said, I'd love to see humanizations that make each character look like a human from the same region that species of animal comes from.

Depends on the kind. I'm not sure if Judy or Nick were meant to map to any specific breed of rabbit or fox. (If not, hey, freebie!)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-15 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
There is literally nothing wrong with liking Zootopia as a funny animals movie and not thinking much of it at all as an Important Social Justice Commentary.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-15 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I wish the fandom was better. I have so many thoughts and nowhere to show them bc it's all furries or sjw stuff.

I'm just happy that the internet is latching on to the term SJW so well. Distinguishing them from people who simply want others to be treated fairly is so important. This way when SJWs start mouthing off and being bullies, they're classified as their own thing and it doesn't hurt the cause as much because we can go "that's just an SJW; disregard them".

(Anonymous) 2016-03-15 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Is this post a joke? The meaning of 'SJW' has been watered down to nothing. You'll get called an SJW for implying that the world is even remotely unfair.

Ever hang out on Know Your Meme? Entire categories of bigotry and injustice can't be discussed there in any fashion without being dismissed as "SJW bullshit."

I haven't seen the movie and I'm not into furry fandom, but I kind of agree with the comment about people making all the human characters white.

And I don't think it was rudely worded either, so your anger over it confuses me.

Eh, I agree also but I've seen a bunch that aren't at all polite, so maybe that's where they're coming from.
