Re: Need to rant?

(Disclaimer: I'm European)

I'm so sick and tired of my friends and relatives talking about the American election, especially as a lot of them have little to no idea about what they're talking about, but have just gotten sucked into #feelingtheBern without really looking into it. Not to mention that it has little to do with us as we obviously can't vote. Last time I met with my group of friends they were super excited about staying up on the night of the election to see who won (which obvs will be Bernie as there seem to be no one else in the race according to them?)

While I'm not super knowledgeable about American politics myself, I feel like I have managed to pick up on more than what is presented in our national newspapers, thanks in part to you guys and other places online as well looking up different issues myself, and feel I have at least gotten a more nuanced image than what my friends and family has. Or at least it seems that way, as when I've tried to actually talk American politics with them they just look at me with blank faces. Still they act like IT'S SO SUPER IMPORTANT YOU GUYS without knowing what anyone stands for or against, on either side.

It's just so annoying! At least read up on some things!

lol ditto. though in my experience, when people talk about the american election now 99% of the time what they're REALLY talking about is donald fucking trump.

i swear to god, everywhere i turn it's trump trump trump trump trump trump trump trumpity trumpeting trumpy trump. what IS it about this guy that makes people unable to shut the fuck up about him?

He's good for ratings. Ratings = money.

ayrt

The thing with Trump is that he's just so over the top that it's amusing for international media to write about, not to mention that he's actually more internationally famous due to the Apprentice (Which used to air in my country) and Miss Universe to mention a couple of things. This has lead to basically none of the other candidates from GOP getting any attention in my country. I tried to talk with some of the friends I ranted about in the former comment about how Cruz believes doomsday is upon us and more than one of them asked who he was and those who did knew nothing about him.So basically everyone I know is very pro-Bernie, very anti-Trump as that's all they hear about.

I can't wait till the end of this presidential campaign.

Then hopefully we will be rid of this male celebutante with the spray tan and tacky wig.

Or we'll get to impeach him six months into his presidency. Ugh.

What, not hoping for assassination?

Are you kidding me? His followers would canonize him if they could.

Died not a virgin, but a martyr, is what they'd say.

I'm American, and I'm sick of Europeans talking about our politics, too.

Yep. You don't live here, you don't know what it's like.

Especially when they talk about guns or race or basically anything, really.

This is how I feel about Americans and the refugee crisis. I wish people would just keep to the politics in their own part of the world, which would be a rant on it's own..

Not to mention that it has little to do with us as we obviously can't vote.

I've seen some Europeans say they're phonebanking for Bernie though. So you can have some influence on things, even if you can't vote for him.

Is that even allowed? I thought the American elections were very much for Americans, with people who are not American citizens not being allowed to donated to campaigns and such. (Though I'm sure some people can get around that)

Even if it is allowed, I don't think that people should do that, as for the most part I don't think people understand American politics well enough (I certainly don't!) and that we shouldn't try to influence the outcome in any way. Obviously this is just my opinion though.

I don't think there's any rules against non-Americans doing volunteer work for the campaigns. There are rules on donating money and voting, but I haven't seen anything that would legally stop a non-American from phonebanking, doing graphic design, or canvassing.

I don't really have an opinion on whether people should be doing it or not. I doubt many people are going to such lengths, so it's nothing to really worry about.

As an American, I'm so sick of the American elections. Donald Trump is running a circus and I see everyone flapping their arms together, yelping like seals, wanting him to keep feeding them the fish he's dangling from his bobby pin sized fingers.
