Need to rant?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-15 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I just need to rant a bit, don't mind me. If you gotta rant, post 'em.

Re: Need to rant?

(Disclaimer: I'm European)

I'm so sick and tired of my friends and relatives talking about the American election, especially as a lot of them have little to no idea about what they're talking about, but have just gotten sucked into #feelingtheBern without really looking into it. Not to mention that it has little to do with us as we obviously can't vote. Last time I met with my group of friends they were super excited about staying up on the night of the election to see who won (which obvs will be Bernie as there seem to be no one else in the race according to them?)

While I'm not super knowledgeable about American politics myself, I feel like I have managed to pick up on more than what is presented in our national newspapers, thanks in part to you guys and other places online as well looking up different issues myself, and feel I have at least gotten a more nuanced image than what my friends and family has. Or at least it seems that way, as when I've tried to actually talk American politics with them they just look at me with blank faces. Still they act like IT'S SO SUPER IMPORTANT YOU GUYS without knowing what anyone stands for or against, on either side.

It's just so annoying! At least read up on some things!

lol ditto. though in my experience, when people talk about the american election now 99% of the time what they're REALLY talking about is donald fucking trump.

i swear to god, everywhere i turn it's trump trump trump trump trump trump trump trumpity trumpeting trumpy trump. what IS it about this guy that makes people unable to shut the fuck up about him?

Re: Need to rant?

He's good for ratings. Ratings = money.

Re: Need to rant?

ayrt

The thing with Trump is that he's just so over the top that it's amusing for international media to write about, not to mention that he's actually more internationally famous due to the Apprentice (Which used to air in my country) and Miss Universe to mention a couple of things. This has lead to basically none of the other candidates from GOP getting any attention in my country. I tried to talk with some of the friends I ranted about in the former comment about how Cruz believes doomsday is upon us and more than one of them asked who he was and those who did knew nothing about him.So basically everyone I know is very pro-Bernie, very anti-Trump as that's all they hear about.

I can't wait till the end of this presidential campaign.

Then hopefully we will be rid of this male celebutante with the spray tan and tacky wig.

Or we'll get to impeach him six months into his presidency. Ugh.

I'm American, and I'm sick of Europeans talking about our politics, too.

Re: Need to rant?

Yep. You don't live here, you don't know what it's like.

Re: Need to rant?

Especially when they talk about guns or race or basically anything, really.

Re: Need to rant?

This is how I feel about Americans and the refugee crisis. I wish people would just keep to the politics in their own part of the world, which would be a rant on it's own..

Not to mention that it has little to do with us as we obviously can't vote.

I've seen some Europeans say they're phonebanking for Bernie though. So you can have some influence on things, even if you can't vote for him.

Is that even allowed? I thought the American elections were very much for Americans, with people who are not American citizens not being allowed to donated to campaigns and such. (Though I'm sure some people can get around that)

Even if it is allowed, I don't think that people should do that, as for the most part I don't think people understand American politics well enough (I certainly don't!) and that we shouldn't try to influence the outcome in any way. Obviously this is just my opinion though.

As an American, I'm so sick of the American elections. Donald Trump is running a circus and I see everyone flapping their arms together, yelping like seals, wanting him to keep feeding them the fish he's dangling from his bobby pin sized fingers.

So my mom just got out of detox at the hospital, but she's not done, so I have pills to give her that I have to hide from her and my roommate, who's an opportunistic pill-thief, but not yet an addict. This is the fifth time mom's gone through detox and I doubt it'll be any more successful. She's dying anyway, but she would live a lot longer if she stayed sober and clean. I live with her and can't afford to leave, I'm working on finishing my bachelor's degree, ten years late, and have a job, so I'm not home enough to keep an eye on her. She's got no friends or family (not have I, aside from her) to keep her company and neither of us is religious. She has no support system. I at least have school and work to keep busy. Her insurance won't pay for someone to check on her and even though she's in palliative care for terminal cancer, her doctors won't sign off on hospice, because they don't count "drinking herself to death" as a cause of death.

And everyone just tells me to live for myself. Well, yeah. But I don't have the stomach to just wait until she drinks herself to death and call the county coroner to scrape her off the floor. She pissed herself on the way to the bathroom and can hardly walk, and I have a test and part of a paper due tomorrow. The best the social worker could muster was for me to drop her off at the addiction counselor tomorrow on my way to school (on public transit) and pick her up on my way home, 8 hours later. "But," she cautioned, "it's not a babysitting service."

Which is what she needs, ffs, she's wearing a diaper and can't walk unassisted, but I'm supposed to leave her alone and let her make the choice to drink or not. The doctor, nurses, and social worker all acknowledged that she shouldn't be left alone, not because she'd drink, which is her choice, but because she's too unsteady on her feet, doesn't know what year it is, pisses herself, and is generally a wreck. And that's a consequence of sobriety.

Fuck my life.

Re: Need to rant?

I'm really sensitive to the time change, especially in the spring when we lose an hour. Like, it's so bad that this morning I was even having hot flashes because my schedule felt so off whack. And by mid afternoon I was miserable and falling asleep at work. And now I'm sitting here exhausted and feel like I have no chance of falling asleep before midnight.

None of this would be unbearable by itself, but on top of it all, I have to listen to smug, passive aggressive idiot bastards heavily imply that it's all in my head because *they* never have any problems. Well congratufuckinglations. My mom worked with toddlers all her life and can attest that half of them were all out of sorts the week after the time change, but noooooo, it's all in my head. UGHHHH.

(Thank you BTW, apparently I really needed this rant.)

Getting any medical help? I don't want to be patronizing, but that does seem to be a huge reaction to a one hour shift.
Hope you eventually adjust to things.

I'm taking melatonin, which is what a doc suggested once. It'll be fine after a few days, I'm just really sensitive to time/light changes.

I'm just annoyed right now because my mom's friend is staying with us for a week. The house is already cramped. And she's even more conservative than my parents, and the conversations are already making me uncomfortable. Plus, I have a gynecologist appointment on Thursday, and my mother wants to go out to eat after, which means everyone is going to be coming along and I may have to explain what is going on to someone I don't really like. Ugh.

Someone on my Facebook friends' list posted a Whisper secret along the lines of "I support #blacklivesmatter but I hate people telling me that because I'm white, I have a 'privilege'. They're judging me solely based on my skin. I think that's racist."

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

ARE YOU KIDDING ME...................ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????

As a minority who grew up in in a predominately white town/state, shut the fuck up. No, seriously. It may be wrong and insensitive for people to say that just because someone is Caucasian they don't understand what it's like to suffer from people have preconceived notions about them, but RACISM is a lot worse than, "You don't know what pain is because you're not a minority."

Re: Need to rant?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-15 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
My sympathies.

I'm white, but someone from my ethnic background would have been considered fit for menial labor only, just about a century ago. People have told me online that the only way that I could purge myself of white privilege is through time travel. ( I wish I was making this up. )

So, I think a lot of people live in a fantasy world regarding how to better manage race relations.

People keep talking to me at work and I like really need to get this shit done by Thursday. I don't want to talk about what I'm doing or what you're doing or the weekend. I just want to finish my work in between all these annoying meetings.

Taking work home with me tonight. Not pleased. I do not get paid enough for unpaid overtime :/
