Gross what am I looking at :(

(Anonymous) 2016-03-23 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
A banana with seeds. It says so right there.

A wild banana, with part of the peel carved off.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-24 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Had the same reaction, that's the grossest banana I've seen in my life. And yeah I'm counting all the decaying brown ones I've ever seen. Didn't know bananas had seeds, let alone that many =/

The cultivars we eat were carefully developed to have fewer, smaller, softer seeds. (To the point that they can't reproduce normally, and have to be spread via grafting.)

Wild-types? Generally more seed than flesh.

It depends on the fandom for me. I use seed in the Tolkien fandom for porn because it feels like a more appropriate term to use than semen in that context. But it throws me out of any fics set in the modern day.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-23 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I care most that the words sound setting-appropriate.
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-03-23 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
That's exactly how I feel. And I think this is one thing that makes past settings in fics more difficult to write sometimes because you have to figure out what words sound appropriate, and modern words don't always work.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-23 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, all that old flowery language we used to try and get around the naughty bits. His "length" was a popular one. I fortunately never ran into "member" outside of a romance novel, but I've heard it had a brief stint in fanfic too. Oh oh, and essence! So great.
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-03-23 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. Length is one I use too. But it just feels more appropriate for the Tolkien fandom. Occasionally I'll use cock. But mostly length and release and seed. I don't know, it just sounds better to me for this fandom. Never used essence, though.

I once saw semen described as "the creamy distillation of his passion."

Which, among other things, is just way too many words.

"member" was pretty common in certain anime fandoms, as I recall.

We could use more plant fucking in fic.

Funniest goddamn secret of the day.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-23 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I genuinely prefer "seed" to "semen" (and "member" to "penis", for that matter) but then again, my fandoms are generally all fantasy.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-23 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
An image like that is actually part of why I find writing/reading the word "seed" for "semen" so hot.

I mean, I KNOW how things work biologically, and that a man doesn't really "plant" his literal "seed".

But gosh darnit, I write a lot of writer-wish-fulfillment-babyfic, so if a character's getting pregnant, "seed"'s my go-to word.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-23 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Referring to it as "seed" makes more sense to me if the context is historical. Modern settings, not so much... though I guess I still prefer it to "cum". I hate seeing the word "cum" in fanfic.
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-03-24 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes, cum. No. If you need to use that word, it is spelled come. Cum just looks juvenile and wrong.

This secret reminded of the Last Week Tonight segments where they started a fake church to point out how dumb American tax laws are, and a bunch of viewers started sending bags of plant seed and jars of semen to "support" the church.

if panama disease is as bad as scientists suspect, we might have to get used to seeded bananas eventually

Bananas make me gag! Yuuuccckkkk

(Anonymous) 2016-03-24 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
the last time i checked, banana didn't have THAT many much of seeds...

(Anonymous) 2016-03-24 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That's because bananas at the grocery store are cultivars that are bred to be basically seedless. As the caption on the picture says, that's a wild banana. Wild bananas have seeds like that.
