Things People Do That You Don't Get

What are some things that people do that maybe don't make you angry but you have a hard time understanding why? Maybe someone can clear it up for you.

Watching television, especially those long indepth series people go wild for, like TWD, GoT, The 100. It just seemed to have kind of snuck up on me in the past five years or so.

I kind of understand this, i'd rather just watch a movie, have a chunk of movie every two years and then watch other movies. I guess i'm not one of those people who can go "omg did you catch the last episode of _____ ? Soooooooo good, amiright?"

Road rage? Most of the time shitty drivers aren't intentionally shitty and it's not like they're intentionally doing it to annoy you personally. And you also got your choice of music and you don't have to actually talk to them either. I'm much more peeved when people are intentionally and personally shitty though.

(I'm probably a shitty driver though so maybe take my opinion with a grain of salt :x)

Worse imo is when people get unreasonably angry at red lights. Yeah its inconvenient, but there is nothing you can do and its not possibly dangerous like bad drivers are, so why bother yelling?

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but for me...

It's not the lack of manners, it's the fact that people seem to be blissfully unaware that they are operating a potentially deadly 1.5 ton weapon and have zero problem being careless about it and risking others' lives with their shitty habits (talking on the phone, not signaling, tailgating everybody, moving at a snail's pace in the passing lane and not moving over, cutting off others).

I can't relax in the car with or without music. I'm always watching the other guy. You know why? Because odds are, the other guy is not watching me.

Sometimes, it's because the taboo of it turns them on. Other times, it's because their partner really likes it, and that either makes them like it or willing to do it.

I guess this is going to be unpopular considering this is a confessions community, but I really don't get secrets like "I ship this unpopular thing" or "I'm writing this embarrassing idfic but I won't show it to anyone" or just secrets that seem to be asking for permission or approval.

Chances are someone is going to come along to say "no this isn't okay" or "ew" or whatever. It's the internet anyone can comment and do it anonymously. So their asshole side is going to come out.

To me it feels like standing in front of your class or student body and telling them about your embarrassing secrets. Some people may cringe in sympathy or say they feel the same way, but someone's also going to make you feel worse. Because people can be assholes. Especially when they sense vulnerability or self consciousness.

There's no need to ask the internet if it's okay. Ship that thing, write that thing whatever. Don't ask for permission if you're not ready for, or are likely to be discouraged by a negative response.

Well, more like standing in front of your class with a paper bag on your head.

I think sometimes people just want to feel that they're not alone.

Some of this might be a reflection of what does and doesn't pass as a secret on FS these days. "I ship it" without any other secret content used to be failbared (it wasn't always, but it was for a long while). We had a lot more secrets getting submitted back then, though.

So, there's social anxiety, which is not rational at all. You can work on it and reduce it over time, but it's still a thing, and it can be and absolutely is brought to the forefront when you go against the grain. There are days when you're able to say, "hey, who gives a crap? I don't need permission to like what I like," and then there are days when you're like, "oh gods everyone hates me." The goal over time is to get to a place where the former reaction happens a lot more often than the latter, but in the meantime, well...yeah.

Apart from that, fandom can be very hostile toward dissenting opinions. In extreme cases, if you admit to shipping or being into something, there's a chance you'll face some degree of harassment. I personally think people should just do their thing regardless, but I can understand why someone would want to fly under the radar.

For some people the approval they do get outweighs the asshole reactions. I mean if they go into it expecting that everyone is going to shit on them and end up getting some nice comments they didn't expect, for some people that's coming out ahead.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-13 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Some people need more affirmation than you do. Or they simply want to sound other people out to see what the reaction might be. Or maybe it's a tiny bit of an self loathing itch and negative responses scratch it. Or maybe hearing a discouraging negative response is easier in a community where you are anonymous. You don't feel the need to do this, but surely you can understand that not everyone feels the way you do, right?

Watching movies just because you really like an actor, especially with topics you dislike. I can't understand suffering through a movie of a genre you can't stand just because that one actor is in it. (I'm particularly unlucky that actors I like tend to mostly act in movies where I hate the genre.)

Getting lifts for a truck. It's like a push-up bra for rig pigs in my city, except it makes me want to flip the owners off.

Texting while driving.

Cab drivers getting publicly violent and weird about stripping as a form of protest to Uber while still asking for the public's support/sympathy.

Scrapbooking (this one doesn't make me angry at least)

Truck nuts.

I mean, how did that even come to be?

Re: Things People Do That You Don't Get

(Anonymous) 2016-04-13 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
There's an episode of Squidbillies that mentions 'truck nuts'. I mentioned it to a friend, saying, "I bet that would be a product that would sell around here." (the midwest...) When he told me it was a real thing I couldn't believe it. Someone would take their hard earned cash to buy nuts for their truck. The hell...?

Buying a kitchen, or I guess any in-house module but it's most common with kitchens. Like I gut buying things IN a kitchen, but not the whole thing, especially at those costs.
