But he's not autistic? His dad was just an asshole and isolated him from most people.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-27 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you miss the word "think" in OPs secret? They're allowed to have an interpretation and share it without word of gods definite yay or nay on how canon it is.

Welcome to fandom. Not everything people talk or think about gas to be written in stone canon.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-27 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are you taking what I said personally?

I don't ascribe to headcanons because I just take canon at face value and don't feel the need to project on to or diagnose fictional characters.

Chill, dude.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-27 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
unless you don't write or produce anything for fandom it's impossible for you not to have headcanons since we don't see every aspect of a character's life

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-28 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I typically don't create fanworks and I think the term headcanon is rather stupid because how extreme people take it, plus people tend to project onto characters when doing this. I actually stay out of fandom because I disagree with most people and I don't care to know what stupid things they think about a character that they think must be true because "headcanon."

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
If you think OP admitting they think something is "extreme" then you need to get outside some more.

But you also think someone pointing out your assumptions and strawmen means they're taking things personally. How's your day going, kettle?

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-28 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
lol I didn't get butthurt because someone dared think something different.

How come everytime someone disagrees with you and points out your intentionally blind reading, you act like they must be taking it personally and get all condescending?

Perhaps you need to learn to comprehend better. Words mean things. Headcanon or interpretation, people are going to do it whether you "ascribe" to it or not - but acting like their interpretations where they literally use the word think (a common indicator of personal opinion) is a statement of fact so you have a straw man to be whiny about will be pointed out.

You going for the personal/chill man rebuttal because you can't handle disagreement in 3...2...1

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-28 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Because that's how I read it? And considering their wording, it was hard not to, lol

I've seen people take headcanon way more personally than theories. Yes, god forbid I be confused where they got an idea of something when there are plenty of things telling us in the game how N became how he was. Nope, it's gotta be autism, always autism... or trans. God forbid a character not be a special snowflake.

lol no I was trying to be civil because they took it personally, but some of you anons try to even use that against me, so fuck you.
Edited 2016-04-28 02:39 (UTC)

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
You're not being civil. You're jumping to the immediate extemes over the word "think" and claiming a 2 line disagreement means they're over defensive. You call everything you dislike "stupid" then wonder why people point out where you're incorrect. You didn't express any confusion or requests for clarity, YOU jumped straight to being dismissive and insults, you immediately went for the fandom police role of demanding people don't explore specific headcanons because you don't like them.

Work on your reading capabilities because as long as you keep strawmaning every little thing so you can have a nonexistent person to gripe about, people are going to keep pointing out that you're being unreasonable and reading everything incorrectly.

Not once were you civil. Grow up and try again.

Fandoms are always headcanoning sheltered characters as autistic. One of my other fandoms does it too. I mean yeah, they could be autistic in addition to the shelteredness, but it's like people ignore that there's a canon reason the character doesn't know how to interact with people, and it's not autism.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-27 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I find that part of fandom special and wish the term headcanon would go away because all it is is fan speculation, even if it involves ignoring canon explanations for a character's personality.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Fandom is rarely anything but speculation. You have headcanons whether you like the term or not. Deal with it.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-28 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
No I don't. Just because I know how to use context clues doesn't mean I have headcanon for anything. It might help that when I cared about fandom, that term never existed because we all knew the things we thought were only theory and speculation and people didn't take those personally.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
You're taking the term headcanon pretty personally. Especially considering neither OP or the first AYRT used that word before you did.

Seems since you don't understand what the word "think" means, that headcanon is an apt term to clarify the obvious you ignored.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
DA. Oh for gods' sake leave this person alone. This is borderline bullying.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
do fandoms still do this

i hadn't realised it was still 2009

I mean that doesn't mean he's not autistic, but yeah, I think severe isolation from humans is more likely to be the reason for his awkwardness and lack of social skills here.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-27 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I haven't played BW all the way through, but I do know N's backstory, so when people say he's autistic, I'm just like, did you even pay attention to what Ghetsis did to him?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-27 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, it doesn't rule it out. But it would be so compounded with his upbringing that it would be nearly impossible to discern without official word.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-28 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's true, but I'm of the thinking that unless they officially say something about a character's mental disabilities, that people shouldn't go around diagnosing fictional characters with them.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Shouldn't"? What are you, the fandom police?

It's a headcanon. You're flying very closely to erasure. Fictional characters don't care. You're not being harmed.

Just because you dislike doesn't mean people "shouldn't" have fun in fandom.

That's your headcanon though. You took bits of stir and made a decision. So do others, but they go different ways. What a surprise.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-28 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's not my headcanon, it's what the game says. I don't have headcanons because headcanons aren't canon and are mere speculation and theory, except people tend to take it more personally with the term headcanon.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Except the game doesn't outright say he isn't, so OP is perfectly allowed to think of N as representation as it's still on the table. And even if the game did, OP is still allowed to think that.

The only person taking OPs thoughts so personally here is you, whys it such a big deal that they think of a character in a different light to you? Such a big deal that you take such offence that you demand and state that people "shouldn't" headcanons fictional characters one way or another?

Whether you like it or not, how you have had your life shapes how you interpret canon and from that you have your own headcanon and interpretations. Notice none of us say you shouldn't have your own headcanons.
