Tattoos are personal. They belong to your body, and to you. They can be anything. One of mine is a semi colon, of all things.

If you want it to be part of your body, it's right. That's the whole answer.

What REALLY matters is that you wait/splurge for someone REPUTABLE. Look at their work online extensively. Request specific artists if you want. Read Yelp reviews. Your artist should talk with you a lot about what you want and how you want it, and be receptive and honest. They should be willing to experiment with that they feel they can do and what you want until you have something you DEFINITELY want on your body.

Hell, I was halfway through getting my 4th and said, "hey, wanna maybe only do this part and not this other part?" and the guy rolled with it. And TAKE CARE OF IT!!! Good luck, anon!!

Hey, tattoo deadline buddies! At the end of last year I made a promise to God that if I didn't have at least some forward momentum in my life in a certain area by January 2017, I'm getting that tattoo I always wanted. I never considered it seriously before because it's deeply frowned upon in my religion, but I figure the only one I'm concerned with is God and whether He can have some concern with me finally.

Then I realized that what I meant to be a deal with God was actually a threat to Him, but screw it I'm desperate.

Curious: what is your religion? (Tell me only if it doesn't give away who you really are on F!S.) :)

Personally, not knowing the context of that tattoo, I think the design looks kind of cheesy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Anonymous) 2016-05-01 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto.

Well, you'll also be protected from possession, so you'll have that going for ya!

I want the Horn of Gabriel sigil tattoo (the angel siren). Probably on my wrist. But I'll probably chicken out.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-30 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you'll regret it.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-30 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
this tattoo is crude and isn't pretty in the least.

I've got the anti-possession tat and I love it. It's non-specific looking enough that's even if you go off SPN, you hopefully won't end up regretting the ink. Like someone said above, research your artist before you go. Even though it's not a complicated design, I wanted really clean lines (admittedly the boys' ones in the show aren't actually a great example!) so I made sure I found an artist who was up to the job.

Good luck! I hope when you get it done you love it too. :)

Got a fandom tattoo. Fifteen years later, I still love it.

You go, anon!
I'd love to say 'come to my SO's shop, he'll do an awesome job' but you're probably in Bulgaria or something. :)

Anyway - thirding the advice - look at portfolios, look at the shop, talk to the artist and other patrons. Make sure the person doing it is a professional who knows their stuff.

DO NOT bargain hunt. You're literally going to die with this on your body. It's not time for cutting corners or trying to get a 'deal'. On this? Splurge.
Good luck!

I LOVE my SPN tattoo! The sun and pentagram as symbols also have amazing histories and meanings which also mean a lot to me as well - Hope whatever your decision is, you do it for YOU!

I don't even watch Supernatural anymore and I want this tattoo. I have several and have plans for several more tattoos...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-01 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Sort of related: I saw a patch of this symbol once and bought it thinking it was a nice looking pentacle (I'm pagan). Didn't know it was from the Supernatural fandom (only half watched one episode). Unfortunately I didn't find out until after it was already sewn on my jacket :P

You do you, but I'd hold off until the show is off the air for some time to get that tattoo. I got a tattoo of a show I was super into and couldn't imagine not being obsessed with it. Then it ended and before long, the feelings faded and I was SUPER regretting that tattoo. Tattoo removal is so freaking expensive :(

(Anonymous) 2016-05-01 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not make a temporary tattoo with that design, and wear it for a while and see if you like it? Temporary Tattoo printer paper is available. Or you could do the design in henna, or with a stencil and washable markers, just to get an idea of what it would be like.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-02 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Don't do it, anon. I know too many people who have gotten tattoos (fandom or otherwise) and regretted them to ever think that getting a tattoo is a good idea, and getting one removed is expensive and painful.

Seconding the above anon's suggestion of doing a temporary tattoo instead, or you could do what I did and get a piece of jewelry made in the shape of the symbol you like. That way you can wear it but take it off whenever you need/want to.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-02 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it, anon! But that doesn't really matter. Tattoos are personal. They're on your body and they're on your body forever. It doesn't matter what other people think about it. It only matters how you feel about it, and if you love it, that's all that matters. :)
