Re: What media did you instantly regret spending money on?

I bought the Warcraft Arthas book for my bf's birthday one year because Arthas is his fave character... it was not worth it. The book annoyed my bf and I couldn't stop laughing while reading it, it was so bad.

I regret buying a Warhammer 40k book about Eldar, it's just so godawful and isn't even accurate to what Eldar are like in the game itself. It's the one book I never finished because I just couldn't bear to keep reading it.

And I regret going to see Prometheus and Godzilla 2014, both movies annoyed me and while I saw Godzilla for free with a gift voucher it was a waste of the money on that voucher.

I saw Prometheus opening night, so I feel you there.

At least I found it somewhat funny (actually started laughing in the theatre at several scenes), or I probably would have been a lot less happy about buying the ticket.

Ngl when main lady started dragging around Micheal Fassbenders decapitated yet still talking head I couldn't stop giggling. Also random black goop zombie-man was funny rather than scary with how wtf it was.

I lol'd aloud at:

Trying to touch the penis/vagina snake.

The Goop Man cometh.

"Ffffaaaahhhhttthheer." >:E

The most poorly thought out running away scene of all time.

I legit said out loud in the cinema "Why are you trying to touch the goop-snake??" because that was so fucking dumb.

I probably shouldn't have laughed when they set black-goop zombie man on fire, but I did.

I do love that this movie coined the term The Prometheus School of Running Away from Things in a youtube channel I like to watch, because really, RUN TO THE SIDE OF THE LONG OBJECT, ffs.

Which 40K book, so I know what to avoid?

(not that I read anything other than Gaunt's Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain anyway)

I had to go find it and check but: Eldar Prophecy. It's just, blaaargh. Avoid it.

(I just wanted a cool book about one of my fave 40k races but nooooo, it had to be shit).

I've not heard of Gaunt's Ghosts, what's that about? And Ciaphas Cain seems like it's a lot of fun, I've not read them properly yet but my bf owns a copy and it's pretty enjoyable from what I've skimmed.

It's about a popular Commissar Ibram Gaunt and the one regiment he leads. The series follows them throughout a long campaign against Chaos. It's very much written in the style of the Sharpe series of historical war fiction novels by Bernard Cornwell; Gaunt is basically Sharpe in a Commissar's cap. It's a good read IMO, no surprise given it's Dan Abnett writing. Feels much more like a "regular" book than "genre fiction."

And Ciaphas Cain is just amazing, and IMO it's what the 40K franchise needs. So much of 40K is adamant about being as grimdark as possible; CC turns it all on its head for comedy.

Huh, that sounds kinda cool, might have to see if a friend has a copy I can borrow.

Yeah from all the grimdark in 40k Ciaphas Cain looks like a nice break.

A few of the scenes in Godzilla were so well shot (e.g. the halo jump with flares) that they were almost worth the price of entry. The rest was garbage, though, yeah.

And Prometheus. Woof. Saw that opening night in IMAX I was so hype. So much regret.

I think Godzilla annoys me thee most out of those two because it had so much potential and it was completely wasted, but IA there are some really nice shots in the movie. It's a shame those were drowned out by dreck.
