There's nothing to even suggest infidelity in the lyrics, though. It's all "I know you want it no matter what you say" bullshit.

This entire thing:

Ok, now he was close
Tried to domesticate you
But you're an animal
Baby, it's in your nature
Just let me liberate you
You don't need no papers
That man is not your maker

Is basically him trying to get her away from another guy to me.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-20 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That's...really reaching. Sorry.

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2016-05-20 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not reaching, that literally how I understood it like the first 15 time I heard it until people started freaking out about it.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-20 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It's reaching to me. I dunno how you're getting infidelity from that.

I don't know how people are getting rape from it, if you really look at the lyrics.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-20 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
If you really think that, please don't respond to me anymore. You make me very uncomfortable.

That might be hard, as you're anon, but I can stop replying to this thread.

That IS what the song is about. It is a guy trying to steal a girl away from a dude. And basically telling her, "He doesn't control you, come on, have some fun with me and let's fuck."

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2016-05-21 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Glad I'm not the only one who heard it that way!

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
THIS. people are so fucking literal and their angry defensive evangelism about their own personal interpretation reminds me of church

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Or, yanno, they just don't like hearing rapey songs on the radio on their way into work?

I got that too, tbh. I never got that rape-vibe from it, until the internet felt the need to educate me. I always thought it was suposed to encourage me to be less of a "good girl" and loosen up a little, in a playful way.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-20 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
People who don't understand why people find the song rapey are frightening.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Or, you know, they don't actually have rape on their mind 24/7.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
More likely they're sociopaths who get off on raoe 24/7 and don't see anything wrong with it.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Or they're not twelve-year-old radfems?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
No, they're twelve-year-old rapists.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's completely unfair to label people. You have no idea whether someone is feminist or not, 'radical' or not, simply based on whether or not they find a song 'rapey'. That is utterly close-minded of you.

If you really want to know about 'radical feminism' then actually find a radical feminist and ask them about it. You may not agree (I certainly don't agree with a lot of my friend's views) but at least you'd have more of an understanding of how they came to that position.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-20 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not reaching at all? Infidelity is actually a very valid reading of those lines.

Personally, I also find the song very rapey, but to say an infidelity interpretation is "reaching" is totally baffling to me.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-20 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, it's reaching to me.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
DA, sorry but that's basically just saying "your interpretation is wrong and mine is superior", because you dislike someone might see it differently. They're song lyrics, not a scientific article.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
And I'm not seeing how those lyrics have anything to do with infidelity. I'm sorry that you don't agree.

I think it's been established that you're an idiot, so it really doesn't matter what it is to you.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
So why did you bother replying if it doesn;t matter?
