And while I'm not in favor of a blanket anathema on the word "cunt", you have to admit it's pretty rich to whine about "mansplaining" being a derogatory gender-based insult and then continue to use "cunt" freely against women women who disagree with him.

I can't take an article seriously, when they say the "c-word" instead of cunt. Cunt is a fantastic word with multiple uses.

While I can certainly see why some men have a problem with the term mansplaining (it's something that's been overused to the extent it's lost its original meaning, like a lot of other words that were useful when discussing sexism), why did he go after this one woman in particular? Is there some history there? Because going after her like that does makes him look like a dick. She didn't @ him in that status, she was just talking in general terms on her own Twitter feed. And she had to deal with a dump truck full of abuse because he replied in that manner.

I think the original meaning had an extra layer of explaining things to women in a patronising way because the man assumed that, because they were a woman, they automatically knew less than them about the subject.

It certainly happened to me a lot when I worked in IT.

As someone who has had to deal with men explaining simple things to me

Such as

1. Explaining the fact that there are, for example, multiple colors of Incredible Hulk like ten times, over and over, because I am apparently incapable of retaining this information

2. Explaining my own dissertation topic to me, after years of my having worked on it

This really is a phenomenon that's attributable to guys and targeted at women. It just is. There's a whole subset of dudes who don't think women are capable of any kind of competency let alone expertise in their pet subject, even if they are actual experts in their own right.

If she did call him a dick previous to this exchange, I can't see it on either of their Twitters. It's possible that she removed it, I suppose. But it reads as if she only called him a dick after he made that comment.
