What bullshit. The whole idea of her little princess just being so gosh darned weak and feminine to be a soldier is insulting to both men and women. Does this person think little boys wants to be forced to die for their country? Does this person think that women are too weak and fragile to be able to train and work on the front line?

Have we had a wank thread about female conscription lately? I'd rather see conscription ended completely, but if we're going to have it then we all need to be subject to it.

DA - All I can think about is this dude I was in a class with who said that he didn't want to hear women complaining about their issues. He would care about women's issues when women had to sign up for the selective service. I haven't seen him in years but I keep wondering if he's now out there fighting for women's rights. Probably not.

Guess he wasn't aware it's been men keeping women from registering, eh?

Uh. At least one female blogger is against it. and I bet there are more.

Christ, yes. I'm scared people will find some of my old writing on the subject of kink and come after me. Literally my strategy is just stay quiet and hope nobody notices I exist.

Yes. Is it from fandom getting more transparent from the outside, I wonder? Like self policing to prevent others shaming us? We shouldn't though, it is legitimizing viewing female sexuality as a threat to society.

I think people are generally more critical of media from a sociocultural standpoint right now, and they're applying that critique to fandom as well as mainstream media. There seems to be a general attitude that m dis influenced actions, thus any problematic media is inherently harmful.

I guess this works as a place to complain.

My friend started drunkenly hitting on me and then got offended when I asked him to stop. He left me a voicemail apologizing for the insults it led to, but that apology spent more time making excuses than actually saying sorry. He was just so hurt by what I said. What I said: "I'm really uncomfortable right now. It's nothing personal; I don't want anyone talking to me like that. Please stop."

And there goes my phone again. I wonder if the second attempt at an apology will be better.

Been in a similar situation. A lot of his "apology" was focused on how my actions made him feel bad. So anytime he said something like that I responded calmly with a reminder that his actions were still making me feel uncomftable and upset - basically reminding him that we both *shock* had emotions. It didn't fix things but it calmed the conversation and made me feel like I'd expressed my feelings. Might work in this situation?
