Re: What are your thoughts on RPF?

For the love of God, don't show it to the people you're writing about unless they ask to see it. Don't show them what other people are writing about them, either. Almost all fic about minors is really creepy, unless you are also a child and are writing self insert fic about meeting your favorite actor and then it's kind of cute. Writing non-con, death-fic, graphically violent fic, etc. about real people is majorly squicky, but if you must then try to avoid putting it somewhere where the people you're writing about can easily find it.

With that said, most of it is pretty harmless, even if it's not my thing. Just-- if you're writing about living people (or recently dead people), take a second to think about how you would feel if some stranger was writing this about you or a loved one and act accordingly.

I've heard stories about people bringing actual personal tragedies celebrities went through into their RPF about the celebrity in question, and that just makes me uncomfortable on SO many levels. Like, if I'm going to write RPF, I want it to be totally fluffy, happy stuff. No way would I want to use their personal pain to fuel my own fantasies with them somehow.

I really don't get the people who happily show the celebrities these kinds of fics. What exactly do they think is going to happen if they do that? Do they think they'll be praised for their brilliant writing skills and proposed to on the spot or something?
