(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)If it's the kind that just casts real people as characters based loosely on themselves, especially in an AU situation, I'm okay with that. It's more like using the real people as actors and archetypes.
The stuff that tries to ship people as their actual selves, though, especially when the authors get tinfoily? I will nope the fuck out.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)I used to look for Lady Gaga fic, because it's playing on Gaga as a persona. But one was a shipfic with Stefi Germanotta and some other real person, and that was a bit strange and awkward; I think it was over a line.
The J2 stuff, with all the AU's, is pathological.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)RP theorizing is also fun as long as you remember that it's basically a game. Unless you're the one person who was writing Taylor Swift / Tom Hiddleston fanfiction in which case you're clearly a wizard.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)With that said, most of it is pretty harmless, even if it's not my thing. Just-- if you're writing about living people (or recently dead people), take a second to think about how you would feel if some stranger was writing this about you or a loved one and act accordingly.

Re: What are your thoughts on RPF?
I figure that anyone in the public eye, be it actors, car show presenters, band members, etc, have at least somewhat of a public persona and that's what I'm writing about. Unless you know the celebs personally, you can only go what they show and tell publicly (and if I knew any celebs personally, I doubt I'd write fic about them).
I agree with keeping fanworks away from who you're writing about--but that also applies to fiction about fictional characters--especially if it's smutty. I doubt most actors/actresses want to see THAT either.
I only post my RPF on AO3 and it's locked so that only registered/logged in users can read it. So, if someone I'm writing about sees MY fic, they've had to gone looking for it. What I hate is the number of people who DON'T lock their RPF/RPS fic.

I actually prefer stories about actors being actors - behind-the-scenes stories instead of AUs with OCs wearing the names.
I will also support the theme of not shoving it in the faces of the actors, or even expecting them to ever match your shipping preferences.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 02:45 am (UTC)(link)...Oh wait, no, I'm not, actually, because this whole comm is full of judgey prudes.
Who the fuck cares what people write fic about? WTF is wrong with you people?

Now, if the writer takes the actual person and starts writing about personal issues and relationships, that's where it's gets REALLY awkward and uncomfortable. The worst thing about it is that people actually SHOW the celebrities the stories. I mean...WHY? A select few may be cool with it, but still, don't go showing them that stuff. It makes you look like a creepy weirdo, to be blunt.
