Reylo? Sansa/Ramsay?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-03 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I literally just saw Sansa/Littlefinger hate on my dash, so that's my vote.

OP, it sucks that you feel you can't squee openly. I know many people in the Reylo camp who made a side blog so that they didn't hurt friends who are triggered by the ship. That way, they could participate in the fandom as much as they wished, be extra considerate of people they care for, and not have to deal with fandom drama on their main blog.

why you would want to ship a woman with her white abuser over her black love interest is beyond me but you, sadly, are not alone. Just look in the Reylo tag on tumblr and I'm sure you can find a few blogs.

na

since you refer to finn as her love interest (maybe he will be in future films, but their relationship in tfa was refreshingly platonic), I'm going to go ahead and assume that you're trolling

HOSHIT I didn't realize my hooha was racist just because it prefers seeing Finn pound Poe in the butt (with his own butt?) instead of pounding Rey's white vayjayjay. What can I do about my racist hooha? Will an exorcism work? Books on tape? I must know!

Why anyone would want to inflict an ugly fucker with no redeemable traits (besides hair) like Kylo onto her is baffling. Reylo shippers must be as fugly as he is to find him hot.

Hey, me too! Seriously, side blog. If you enjoy Reylo enough that you want to join the fandom, do it. The meta, fanart, and fic quality is really high and the fandom is so active.

Alternatively, no side blog and put out feelers to find our if your friends will even care if you post about Reylo. I have lost followers (not friends, just followers) who turned out to be horrible anti sheep, so I considered that a bonus.

Definitely not into Reylo, but the kind of behavior you've described in the comments below is waaaay over the top and unnecessary. Your friends don't have to like your ship, but just because you're into a pairing they find disagreeable doesn't sound like a good reason to stop being friends, or be rude in the least. You should find new friends, OP.

I mean, yea, on occasion I disagree with people's shipping feelings too, but I can move past it because at the end of the day it simply isn't that important.

If I were you, I'd go ahead and join the fandom, find some people to interact with about your love for the ship. If you feel more comfortable creating a side blog to do it, that's fine too. Whatever makes you happy.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-07-04 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
OP here.

Thank you for being respectful - I understand and respect that my ship isn't to everyone's taste, and I respect other people's ships, too (I like your Finnrey icon, by the way).

I think I'll take your advice and carve out my own fandom space with a sideblog, since I think that'll suit my needs best.

As a relative outsider looking in, the hate Reylo gets never stops baffling me. When did hero/villain ships stop being a thing? I guess that's just the fandom climate we live in nowadays.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-07-04 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
tumblr generally thinks it's hot as long as the hero and villain are both dudes (not always, obviously, but I'm pretty positive that there at least wouldn't be as much reylo hate if it were a slash ship).

sadly, rey is a chick so the ship is ~gross~ and ~abusive~

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-07-04 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
It depends on the fandom. Some fandoms seem to have more controversy around hero/villain ships than others.

With Star Wars in particular, there is some existing history of hero/villain ships, especially if you count the old EU (Revan/Bastila, Mara Jade/Luke, Vestara/Ben Skywalker, Myn Donos/Gara Petothel, and in current canon Anakin/Padme).

Granted, many of the villains in those pairings didn't stay villains, but were villains at the beginning of their narrative arcs. I also think the comparative visibility of an incredibly high-profile new trilogy compared to an EU/Legends novel is a contributing factor.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-07-04 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think they 'stopped' being a thing in that the people who hate them gained more confidence because they realized they could get super-misogynistic by pulling the "It's morally WRONG and women need to be saved from it! Because women are dumb and easily influenced by fanworks and we need to protect them." trump cards.

Because, you know, finding a villain/hero ship appealing means you're absolutely unable to tell fantasy from reality. That's why immediately after GoT became popular the biggest hit trend EVER was Red Weddings. Just hundreds of people arranging mass murder weddings.

I agree. I don't ship it, but villain/hero ships are SUPER popular, especially with a male villain that many people find attractive.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-03 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"triggered by the ship" - How is that even a thing?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-03 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
In Supernatural fandom, people get "triggered" by the ship they ship having buttsex wrong. So maybe this is less batshit by comparison?

(Not that "less batshit than Supernatural fans" is a particularly difficult bar to clear.)

My guess is that a lot of people see Reylo as rape-y and have problems with that.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-03 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Somewhere along the line, a generation of children were led to believe that they had the right to demand a life free from any encounters with anything they didn't like or found difficult to understand or challenged their narrow worldview. Hence, anyone who confronts them with the existence of anything unpleasant is a bad person and should be shamed, and the unpleasant thing should be scrubbed from cultural memory.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-03 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
made a side blog so that they didn't hurt friends who are triggered by the ship

What. The. Actual. Fuck.

I'd be getting some new friends if mine couldn't accept me, warts and all.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-04 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
Or at least block the posts they didn't want to see.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-04 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Sansa/Ramsay is not even remotely popular. There are way more mainstream problematic Sansa ships out there than that one.
