Re: Characters you feel were screwed over by the plot

Almost everyone in The West Wing, but especially Jed and Toby.

Also Sam obviously, but that's a bit too obvious to count (he vanishes during a major character arc without any explanation of what happened to him and isn't seen or mentioned again until one of the very last episodes of the series.)

Well, Sam wasn't screwed over by the plot so much as by Rob Lowe's dumb ass, I feel like.

Yeah but the actor's performance/presence is still part of the plot? The writers could have EASILY come up with an appropriate and in-character excuse for him to leave, given the hopeless-campaign storyline he had just gone through, but instead there was NOTHING.

But I really don't mind that as much as Jed and Toby, because since Sam just vanished, his character and personality couldn't get shit on and twisted like the onscreen characters.

Argh, you have no idea how mad the way they handled Jed and Toby still makes me (and it has been a few years since the show was on)! I just pretend everybody's a different character after Sorkin left since they don't feel the same anymore. They weren't the characters I fell in love with.

Oh, I just started the West Wing. Is there a place I should stop or should I watch the whole thing? I'm only about halfway through the 1st season and have been enjoying it.

Well, Sorkin leaves at the end of season 4. That said, the thing that happens at the end of that season makes it really hard to stop watching, so I usually continue. Gradually the sinking feeling that says these are not my people begins, and by the end of season 5 I'm cursing high heavens.

I was afraid of that. I'll probably end up watching the whole thing and cursing myself the whole way to the end. lol
