Wait, what does the Cat & Kara dynamic have to do with the channel change

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Callista doesn't want to move. If Kat is still on the show, at least her amount of screen time is going to be reduced. They've cast a new, male boss for Kara.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, well, that's fucking terrible.

I wouldn't blame it on the channel move though. Plenty of shows have problems with cast members wanting to move on, and they probably wouldn't have picked it up for another season on CBS, right?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, Callista only agreed to the role because it would not require her to move. And all CW shows are filmed in Vancouver. So yes, the move is exactly why.

WHAT THE PISSING SHIT?!?!?!

Someone needs to get got.

FUCK THEM.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Original actress left. So, new boss. That is what happens these days.

[personal profile] meredith44 2016-07-17 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn. I'm annoyed. Cat was one of my favorite parts of the show, and I loved the Cat/Kara dynamic.
comma_chameleon: (Why?!)

[personal profile] comma_chameleon 2016-07-17 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That sucks. I like Cat (Kat?). I'm withholding judgement on the new boss until I see them though, since blaming the character for Callista not wanting to move to Vancouver/commute to do filming is kind of ridiculous.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder how much interaction Kara will actually have with her new boss. Considering Cat left her with an open ended job offer at the end of the season.

But I will miss the Cat/Kara moments.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The show is moving from Los Angeles to Vancouver, and Calista Flockhart doesn't want to move. She's still going to be involved, but her screentime is going to be reduced, and exactly how much she's going to be involved is yet to be seen.

And yes, they cast Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr, Kara's new boss.

[personal profile] comma_chameleon 2016-07-17 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
... is Snapper actually the character's name? I'm seriously giggling right now.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That's actually his name in the comics, but...yeah. :)

His first name is actually Lucas, but 'Snapper' is the name he usually goes by. It's a reference to his character quirk - frequent snapping.

Ian Gomez?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-18 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Ian Gomez. As Snapper Carr.

Aw, c'mon!

If a Marvel show introduces Paul Ben-Victor as Rick Jones, I'm gonna cry.

Re: Ian Gomez?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-18 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, but this comment is really confusing to me

Is there some connection between Gomez and Ben-Victor that I'm missing?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Could be worse, OP, Frank Cho could be doing the marketing materials.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are they switching channels? I thought Supergirl was getting good enough ratings.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Something to do with the way royalties are paid out.

OP

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it was ever quite clear. So many people keeps saying it was a good idea and that it is a more CW show. But just because it is a superhero show doesn't make it a CW show. It has a very different tone from most of their shows.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a superhero show created by the same team (well, two thirds of the creative team) that does The Flash and Arrow. That means it does kind of make sense for it to be on the same channel.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-18 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
The reason I saw was that the show was very expensive to shoot at CBS's budget level (in the millions per episode), so it was going to be cancelled. CW's effects aren't as good, but they have a system for it and a more affordable budget, plus they already have other DC shows, so they adopted it when CBS decided they couldn't keep it up.

A few reasons.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-18 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
The CW is partly owned by CBS and the same creative/production team that does The Flash and Arrow also created Supergirl. Moving it to Vancouver (where The Flash and Arrow are filmed) will help with production costs (part of the reason CBS was reluctant to renew) and will make it easier to do crossovers, which they are planning. Plus, I'm assuming it also has something to do with how well it fit the network.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I may have to start watching the show again. I never liked that Cat/Kara dynamic.
lentils: I wouldn't be worth much if I couldn't feel (Default)

[personal profile] lentils 2016-07-18 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's interesting you feel that way, OP. As someone who watched 2 seasons of Arrow and has been watching Flash and Legends since the beginnings, I really think Supergirl has always had a very CW feel and I was baffled about why it ended up on CBS. But I guess we'll see how it fares, fingers crossed?
