I had the opposite reaction, to be honest. I was surprised to see that she wasn't conventionally attractive in her music video but that only hit me harder with the fact that the character she's playing must be really good at sex. Mindblowing enough in bed to make all those conventionally attractive hunks go for her over supermodels. I thought it added to the song.

Then I realized the song was actually not about being hot or sexy and instead about how good she was in bed and and had all these lovers crawling back to her begging her for sex and I liked it a lot more than I did before. I dunno. I thought not having to be 'pretty' was kind of the point. Maybe it was just me.

There have been a lot of popular songs lately that I thought were by a black woman until I saw the singer, and I get the feeling they wouldn't be as widespread if those singers were actually black. ("All About That Base" is another example of the style.)

I mean, it's not really a serious song to begin with, and people can write songs about things they haven't experienced, just as they can write stories about things they haven't experienced.

But also, looks have very little to do with being good at sex, and there are a damn lot of men who will have sex with women they aren't attracted to. So...I dunno. I can understand the disconnect but I don't feel it.
