US Election

(Anonymous) 2016-07-30 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Disclaimer: I'm not a US citizen, but if I was, I'd vote for Clinton.]

So, I have family (immigrants) and friends in the US and I hope the Democrats will win in November because I want the best for them, but... a tiny, shrill, petty part of my brain secretly wants Trump to win, simply because I want to see all his supporters howl and moan when he turns out to be horrible. The thing is, I don't think he'd actually bring forth the apocalypse, but I do think he will be ineffective, incompetent and embarrassing, and part of me wants to see the looks on those people's faces when their egomaniacal dream inevitably implodes.

Of course, I don't want him to ACTUALLY win because I don't want anybody to have a shitty president, least of all people I care about, but again, my lizard brain has such trainwreck syndrome with the whole thing.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-30 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Realistically, that wouldn't happen. They'd just blame Obama and 8 years of Democrats for everything, then elect Trump again.

Oh. Yeah, I'm afraid you're probably right. If he fails, it'll be because everyone else is mean and also probably have tiny penises. Sigh.

Yep. See the George W. Bush presidency, where everything was Clinton's fault.

I remember when Republicans blamed the start of the recession on Obama... even though it happened when Bush was in office.

Re: US Election

(Anonymous) 2016-07-30 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
It's kind of sweet you're naive enough to think that Trump supporters would 1) be savvy enough to realize that their Great White Savior is a Great Orange Disaster and 2) have the integrity to "howl and moan" rather than just doubling down on their stupidity. They're so out of touch with reality that they have zero problems claiming he's a great candidate with great ideas. I'm pretty confident they'd be unlikely to change their tune regardless of the outcome, and I think the history of US politics bears me out on this.

Re: US Election

The biggest things that scare me about Trump are the fact that he could actually be allowed to pull us out of NATO & WTO w/o senate/congress. And the fact that I will lose my health insurance and be back to someone that would have to pay $1000+ a month for basic coverage.

Since I am not a minority his other shit wouldn't effect me personally as much but it still terrifies me.

Exactly. The fact that he picked a VP who believes in gay conversion therapy strikes me as particularly unsettling. So does the GOP's disturbing obsession with trying to chip away at, if not outright ban, things related to women's health issues/Planned Parenthood/etc.

A lot of his supporters seem to be knee-deep in cognitive dissonance, so I have a feeling they'd explain all of his failures away -- anything he did wrong would somehow be the Democrats' or liberal media's fault.

I get you, though, because there's a part of me that wants something akin to the morning after Brexit, where a bunch of voters wake up and are like, "...holy shit, what did I just do?" And that's all id.

At the end of the day, I don't want him anywhere near the presidency, and he's already gotten way too close for comfort.

It will forever boggle my mind how people in this country didn't automatically see his running for president as the joke it was supposed to be back when the 2016 election stuff started, and actually allowed him to get this far instead. That's going to be a fun thing to explain to future generations :/.

Yeah, I think I was thinking of some kind of Brexit moment, but of course, it wouldn't be actually worth it to have that blowhard con man get actually elected. And like with Brexit, I'm sure the people who actually fucked it up will get away with it and everyone else will suffer for it.

Something you need to know about Trump supporters: they will never admit they're wrong.

Re: US Election

(Anonymous) 2016-07-30 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of Trump supporters would be pretty comfortable with things turning out badly, because it would still mean that they've shown The Fucking Liberals.

Re: US Election

(Anonymous) 2016-07-30 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I know a few Trump voters--some of them are coworkers who benefit or have relatives who benefit from government entitlement programs, but they'd rather see the "undeserving" have their benefits taken away and either suffer nobly to punish those nasty freeloaders, or complain that it's those nasty freeloaders' fault that their benefits got cut. One of them complains vociferously every time their SSI amount is reduced and blames it on "Obama is a Socialist!" Another came back from a Caribbean vacation complaining that "the natives weren't picturesque enough, they were so dirty," and says that Trump is "disgustingly vulgar, but at least he's not Hillary."

The man's a threat to national and global security. He has literally called upon a hostile nation to engage in cyberterrorism against the United States because it benefits him. Remember when conservatives hated Russia? I do. And now they're all choking down Putin Pud like it's Gogurt.

I mean, not only that, but despite his protestations to the contrary, he seems to have financial ties to Russia, and Russia seems to want him in office.

The right should be up in fucking arms about this, but they're not. And they've been licking Putin's ass for years because "lol Obama is so weak lol," while at the same time treating Reagan, the man to whom they attribute the end of the Cold War (which clearly never actually ended), as the second coming.

There are no principles. There are no ideals. There are only emotions, and the prospect of winning, and the promise that if you tap into the former, you improve your chances of the latter.

That isn't what fucking happened, you hysterical moron. What he said was that if Russia had the e-mails from the hack which already happened, then they should turn those emails over. Since the emails are evidence in a federal investigation, it was actually the government's fucking responsibility to request them. And thanks to a treaty Bill Clinton signed, Russia would have an obligation to provide them.

Stop letting the media's repulsively inaccurate paraphrasing of Trump's words tell the whole story for you.
