I fucking love this show. (Not in a so-bad-it's-good way, either.)

I really liked the first season. The last season after the time skip I didn't enjoy and stopped watching

OP here

Definitely agree the second season was a lot worse...I was devoted enough to the characters I enjoyed myself, but I might not have if I didn't care about them so much.

AYRT

My memory is a bit foggy but I think it changed too much for me and I couldn't follow the story or characters anymore? I might have missed something in the season 1 finale but the time skip took me by huge surprise and basically through me out via confusion lol

I liked characters but I wasn't super invested to hang around and find out what was going on :s

But I really enjoyed that first season!

I had a foot out the door when Reed Diamond left and I'm not even sure I made it to season 2?

OP

I watched it in high school, which allowed me to be very blind to the glaring badness of it

I have watched every episode of this except the one I had to track down & download, and I think I have that one on a hard drive still.

I was enough of an Eliza Dushku fan to get weirdly obsessed with this show. Enver Gjokaj is amazing, and possibly underused anywhere else.

This is a dark ride. Not Black and White Morality, not Blue and Orange Morality, but, "Ingest something illegal and take a good look at a staring's wing," as Pratchett once said. (“We’re pimps and killers, but in a philanthropic way. Can I go now?”)

At one point around the beginning of Season Two, it just starts kicking its fans repeatedly: in the gut, then the forehead, heart, gut, crotch, solar plexus, side of the neck, maybe gut again.

Is it love? Is it Stockholm Syndrome? Is it sophisticated psychological programming?

"I try to be my best."

Also, Mike just wanted a sauna!

Was there ever an in-universe explanation for why they sleep in the floor?

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Someone watched The Beatles movie "Help" one too many times?

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
So there can be a fight in which people crash through them onto whoever is sleeping underneath?

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
In light of the secret, I was randomly re-watching 'Briar Rose' tonight - Netflix autostarted the next episode from when I watched last - and it was explained that the sleeping pods are designed to capture carbon dioxide and methane (everyone farts!) and recycle it back into the building environmental controls.

Then again, the character who said this was not the most reliable. :)

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
So they could get gassed with drugs to keep them happy and content. I think they say in Brair Rose. The pods could have been like Star Trek stasis units, but I guess the production department went with floor coffins.

Epitaph One was some of the best television I've ever seen in my life. I miss this show a lot and re-watch every now and then.

EPITAPH ONE IS SO GOOD

I love Dollhouse more than Firefly, so maybe I'm the wrong person to ask but why would anyone be ashamed of liking Dollhouse? It's not really considered the best work of anyone involved but I've never heard it called awful.

If I remember right, this came out right at the height of deeming everything "problematic", viewing everything from the worst possible interpretation and judging its value accordingly.

And when your show's premise hinges basically brainwashed prostitutes, there's lot of stuff to find problematic. Oh and don't forget an unhealthy dose of judging the creators for what you think their motives are.

I'm right there with you on liking Dollhouse better than Firefly! *high five*

From what I can remember from the first season, people were really taken aback how the show never said out loud how bad the corporation was. Because one really should spell it out with big neon letters, that a corporation who brainwashes people into prostitution is evil. Heaven forbid people would think for themselves. But maybe that's just too much to ask from network audience.

/end bitter rant from a bitter Dollhouse fan.

I rather liked it, too?

Was the production value really that bad? I didn't notice anything bad...
