I've seen a number of those types of fics in the Supernatural and Supernatural RPF fandom, but this is the only one that I have on hand: http://archiveofourown.org/works/298453

(it doesn't really fit the bonus points part though, although I'm pretty sure I've seen a few fics along those lines)

OP

Yay thank you! <3 I really wish there was somewhere I could ask this that reached a wide fandom audience. T___T

I think that if you write characters in an ABO universe as people, rather than sex tropes, you're going to get some of that going on naturally. People having a wide variety of tastes and desires that would be counter to strict biology.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-08-27 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
This times a billion.

Real life biology is ALL shades of grey. ...It's honestly one of the major reasons I can never take this kink seriously.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-28 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
OP

I mean...you're right, but that's exactly what A/B/O is, it's a sex trope. It's full of ridiculous pseudo-biology and it's meant to hit very specific kinks, which is why I said I think I'm doing it all wrong. You can still write nuanced characters, but honestly, think about how relatively rare it is to find someone who writes regular slash fic with characters who switch (we just had a huge secret about this a couple days ago and pretty much everybody agreed, which surprised me as someone who hates how little there is of it, normally I see a backlash defending strict bedroom roles and yaoi tropes and that people who wish to see more switching are "whiny", even when they already write it themselves and just wish other people did too), and then think about what A/B/O is.

Is it really any surprise there's not a ton of this kind of fic out there? I'm essentially doing A/B/O all wrong, since the entire point of it is that omegas are super duper total bottoms by nature, and alphas are genetically hardwired to fuck things, both roles sometimes take it to the point where instinct cannot be overruled. (And of course you sometimes get the darker side of A/B/O from that with random alphas raping omegas, and omegas who can't help themselves even if they're sobbing and hating every second of fucking this random stranger or something.)

It's pretty obvious in A/B/O-land that the vast majority of ficcers write these instincts are more primal and animalistic, instead of regular old human desire and want, so I would argue that while there obviously would be people who go counter to biology, it would be even more of a taboo in A/B/O-land than it is here in the real world.

(I've seen some interesting things done with that too! I've got a whole worldbuilding thing set up because of that, and I've seen a Free! fic where Rin is an alpha who is into other alphas, and that's taboo. It's hinted at that he and Sousuke get together in that fic, and while I'm not a fan of the pairing at all, I found te way the fic handled it to be really fascinating, it was handled essentially like homosexuality is, except the "othering" lines occurred due to dynamic instead of gender.)

I'd agree, though I enjoy "classic" m/m ABO, I mostly love it tied to physical/sexual characteristics/M-preg rather than personality. So I love omegas and alphas switching sexual roles because they want to. idk.

I only know of one Stark Trek fic like that the took place in (or had elements of) the Mirror Universe. I'll try to find it for you!

Oh thank you, I would love if you could! :D

Curious: Are there any good ones with betas out there trying to find love among the walking hormonal stews?

(Anonymous) 2016-08-27 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
OP

There's a One Punch Man fic where Genos is an omega and Saitama is an asexual beta and they get into a relationship if you want me to try and find it for you?

It's...the writing style is really, really good, but honestly the way Saitama is kind of sex-repulsed combined with Genos just kind of "happening" to not have to have actual sex during his heat because I think the author just didn't want to go there or something...eh, I don't know, it all ended up being a little squicky for me personally at the end. (No disrespect to sex-repulsed asexual peeps but I'm an allosexual and I place a lot of intimacy in sex, and seeing somebody who can barely touch their partner in an erotic manner without getting panicky and grossed out really, really hit some personal squick buttons for me that are compounded by my own personal past.)

The rest of the fic is good, and I really, really liked seeing a beta/omega pairing for once, and the romance is really sweet...I just wish pretty hard that the author didn't jump on the "Saitama is asexual" train. (I have...feelings about how dumb I find that headcanon.)

Here's this one from Teen Wolf. It's unfortunately hooker!fic, so the love/relationship isn't there, but it hits your other requirements (social stigma, instincts) pretty hard.

OP

Thanks! <333 Just started reading it. :) I'm with you on the 'unfortunately' part though haha, I've never been into hooker!fic, I barely tolerate it when it ends in true love (I'm just not into that AU, I guess because I know too many sex workers in real life and it hits too close to home because my friends don't have Prince or Princess charming coming to sweep them away from the shitty Johns), and it's even less tolerable when it's just...hooker!fic to be hooker!fic with no relationship build-up.

Still, the fact that it hits those others points is making me read it! :P

OT, but I can no longer see the words Alpha or Omega without instantly thinking of nameless ghouls. Sorry. ( I've yet to see A/B/O in that fandom and hope I never will.)

(Anonymous) 2016-08-28 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Better than me. I now see the words "alpha" and "omega" and think porn. It makes some reports for work really awkward, and church far more interesting if Revelations is being read. "I AM THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA!" ...oh, so you can fuck yourself?

I've seen Alpha/Alpha fics but I think I've only seen one omega!top fic? I think it was a Sherlock/John fic where Sherlock is the omega.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-28 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
So this series begins with the premise that alpha!Bucky wants omega!Steve to top him because Hydra has convinced him that he's an omega (because they're skeevy gender essentialists and thought he'd follow orders better that way), which isn't really what you're looking for. But then even after Bucky becomes less confused on this point, the two of them continue to switch frequently. :-)

...I might actually read some ABO if this were a thing.

I get that. I feel like that's the only way I could possibly write something in an ABO verse... but since it's never, like, flooded any of my fandoms, it's never been a thing I had to really care about much. Like sometimes I see it and if it's a great writer I'll read it, but I definitely think it's more interesting to have the conventions played with.

I've certainly seen and read ABO fics exploring ABO 'issues' such as unappreciated betas, betas/omegas who want to be more alpha, alpha/alpha and omega/omega (the former frowned on the latter sometimes frowned on sometimes a cultural expectation depending on the fic). Omegas who don't want to be rutfilled subs is pretty common tropes in a trope. Granted, sex at some point is likely to happen but they tend to be big slow burn fics.

Don't think I've ever read an omega topping alpha fic, but then I tend to stick to Avengers fics and don't really stray out of it.

My favourite ABO tropes are the pack ones. Be it naturally turning into a pack or everyone is naturally a pack except one straggler and they try to woo/wait patiently/shrug and accept this individual isn't a pack person.

I don't like the ones that force the outlier to conform. I don't mind the risk of it, but prefer the fics where the cast learn and accept the outlier individual.

A Psych fic (the omega topping is only talked about as a "next time", but the alpha is into it; also, from my limited a/b/o knowledge, has some other bendings of the usual dynamics):

There's a John Blake/Bane fic where John Blake is an alpha and he gets topped (though by a beta, I believe, pretty far through the story). Pretty sure it's called 'Need'? It's interesting because even though John is an alpha and Bane an omega, Bane's really in control (John is more or less kidnapped to deal with Bane's heat and seems somewhat naturally submissive).

mindlessly obscure fandom, but you might enjoy this blake's 7 fic: http://archiveofourown.org/works/4963891/chapters/11398846 it doesn't quite have the reverse topping, but it has a fantasy (from the alpha) that involves this, and an indication that it did happen later in the fic.

the author's also written a bdsm AU in this fandom that fits the criteria: http://archiveofourown.org/works/6412585/chapters/14680090

there's stacks in the spn fandom. off the top of my head there is

1) http://archiveofourown.org/works/3336935(cas is an omega)
2) http://archiveofourown.org/works/1711481(cas is a beta)
3) http://archiveofourown.org/works/1177887 (dean is an omega, but he and gabriel switch, although this isn't so explicit)

there's also a lot of alpha/alpha and omega/omega. *shrugs* I see it all the time. I also don't think there is a right or wrong way to write it. people write and read what they enjoy. I personally really like bottom dean (I read mainly spn) so I don't care what his designation is. (ah so yeah, all those are bottom dean)

The only one I've seen doesn't have your other preferences, only the omega topping his alpha. It's in a somewhat rare fandom as well, Bujold's Vorkosiverse.
