26. I haven't seen that movie in years! I loved it just as much as I love the original (which I still need to get on DVD ;_;). She did make an awesome Cruella and I can't think of anyone more fitting for the role. I forgot Hugh Laurie was in it though. Now I need to watch it again!

1. sometimes i feel odd BECAUSE I prefer things that are more black and white. all that moral questioning and crap? feh, everyone tries to be all pretentious about it, but there's too much of that I have to deal with every day in real life! When I watch a show I want the good guys to be the heroes and the badguys to slapped around like they aren't often enough back in reality. sure i like my bad guys not to be cardboard cutouts... and I enjoy the occasion twist of a villians motives, but if a show can for a moment can make me believe there are really true heroes out there, doing their darndest to make the world a bit better, it's worth a watch. (i'm a sucker for badguys-turned-good also XD)

But really, I know he’s a bastard and weak mentally; I’ll be the first to admit it, even though I love him. And the hooking up with Itsuki part…is kind of…subtle because of his bastardy and not giving two shits about other people’s feelings, but there are really subtle clues he did so, IMHO. I just like him because I relate to him is all, godawful character traits and all.

(Not the answer you expected, huh? Your grievances are legitimate, IMHO. It's not like you said you didn't like him for being ugly or something.)

As a fan of Utena and a member of the forums, I think it's kind of funny that you'd say someone could "get it wrong" when analyzing Utena. Isn't one point of the show about being open-ended and being able to make your own assumptions? That being said,I agree that Gio (I assume you're talking about her and not Yasha) has a pretty overbearing tendancy to Akio worship, but I still found a lot of her essays to be really interesting, and not totally off-base.

Anyway, I still hold that IRG's the best active Utena forum around, so...

I know the series is open-ended, I love it for that, and my issues are more some of the conclusions she comes to about the characters. Yes, I know, how you interpret a character is pretty much as open-ended as can be. XD But the mark of a good essayist IMO is that you either convince the reader or at least provide enough evidence to make a decent argument. Her assessments of a lot of things are oversimplistic and sometimes just...downright offensive to me. Trying to condense this as much as possible here:

Akio is sexy, and any woman who 'denies' this is just kidding herself and can't deal with liking a villain. (I could care less if she likes him, for the record, but don't tell me I'm wrong for disliking him because I 'can't handle it'.) Saionji fans - the real-life ones, even - are natural submissives draw to their need to nurture him, with a future in BDSM. Wakaba completely deluded herself not just about whether he gave a damn about Anthy but about his 'true nature' (she seemed to base this on, like, one line. that wasn't even translated the same way in my fansubs.) Utena isn't just naive, she's an idiot and as innately selfish as the rest of the duelists because she's casting Anthy in the role as her princess. While Akio is forgiveable, Anthy is just plain 'malicious' because she's passive-aggressive sometimes.

There are aspects to what she writes that are true, too, she just delivers it with this absolute sureness that she's telling you this important thing about the series. And then works it around to conclude that most of the women are stupid or wrong for their behavior, while the men do worse and they're 'hot', and readers are just in denial if they feel differently. I sound wanky as hell, I know, and I have no idea what her personal life is like. I just do reserve the right to be irritated by it, and I doubt I could talk to her on the forums without getting into a lot of arguments. XD

09. It has never occurred to me to inquire about someone's weight over the internet. I kind of wonder why you actually needed to lie as opposed to saying nothing.

That said, I'm not skinny, but I think the backhanded compliment, "you're-so-pretty-I'm-so-jealous-I-want-to-hurt-you" sentiments that seem to go around are pretty awful.

34. You know, I don't understand why everyone calls Edgeworth and Phoenix bishounen. Klavier's bishounen. Edgeworth is not. Also, I don't consider either Edgeworth or Phoenix hot, personally (I think it's the HUGE SHOULDERS OF DOOM). And though I like the girls better, I will admit that Larry is adorable, and he truly does not get the love he deserves.
